Remote Capship docks for regular stations
Going to M7 every damn time we need to change the setup on Tridents is boring as hell and inability to dock at any other stations makes everything unnecessarily complicated.
Current stations are not designed for docking Tridents but maybe it should not be too difficult to have a remote capships dock 1-2k away from stations.
Remote dock could be connected to the station via npc barges (stole this from another suggestion) and have the same interface as the station. Trident pilots would be able to change configurations, load/unload cargo, buy stuff and do everything else just like they are docked at M7.
Put your Tridents nose to the remote dock and you get a message - 'you are now docked at bla bla'.
About the look of the remote dock itself... it could be anything, from a simple buoy to some more elaborate design.
Think we can all agree that what is needed atm is functionality, eye candy can be added later.

+1 Though I'd still like to see it as an external dock rather than a full dock.
Perhaps it could be a boom-like structure extending out with docking beacons every 500m or so, anticipating more capships. I think it would make sense that this be on only capitol stations or barracks stations.
Good ideas. Not to mention it would open up new playing dynamics being able to dock outside of M-7.
+1 for dents being able to dock externally to any station while vulnerable. I've mentioned before that the nose of the trident looks like it fits into the dock and the rest of the ship would just hang outide. The shields would have to come down while docked obviously and take whatever time is set for them to regenerate. When the dent is done, capt clicks undock the dent is pushed backwards gently out of the station entrance.
You guys do know the devs already intend to add more capship stations, right? And that it would actually take them longer to implement external docking than to drop in more capship stations? External docking might be an interesting feature in its own right, but it's not a means to solve the nowhere-to-dock problem any faster than it's already being solved.
I can only speak for myself, but I don't want more M7's. I don't think ships the size of tridents or potentially large should normally have full docking except at unique stations like the manufacturing station at M7. In my imagination, ships of this size should for the most part use an external docking mechanism in the same vein as was seen on DS9.
M7 is a shipyard.
My suggestion is only related to external docking of Tridents to regular stations via remote (can be few k away from the station) docking facility.
Externally docked Tridents are not protected like they are actually inside stations. Docking just enables dent pilots to perform in station actions using station interface.
