I have no idea who you are, Joylessjoker. I only know you said something that makes absolutely no sense.

Actually, I'm going to have to side with Greenwall on that particular point. Calling mines OP is hyperbole. They're more useful than many give them credit for, but not overpowered.

I should also point out that mines, like all weapons, must be used intelligently or they'll accomplish nothing. If people find them useless, it's because they're unskilled at using them.

Pizzasgood: Yes, I use hyperboles a lot. It seems that we agree here anyway. The fact that mines are more useful than many people give them credit for is the very point that I'm trying to make, nothing more or less. Traders should use them more if they find themselves stalked by pirates.

To go back to the original intention of this thread, traders are not necessarily disadvantaged by those changes proposed by Savet/tarenty. If they cannot use mines well, that's their fault really.

Btw Greenwall, you seem to have a short term memory problem. I told you who I am, here:

joylessjoker... I have experience dropping mines and dodging them while chasing, but most likely not as much as you. You just don't follow the straight line right behind the ship you are chasing if it is dropping mines. That's probably more difficult to do while gaining on the ship in an x1 than it is in a hound.

edited to add that I said the trader would be at 50% as well cause I assume the chaser has been shooting at the ship.

joyless hammers home the heart of the (h)issue. This change only comes into play after a number of other circumstances take place. It changes nothing about the status quo, only what choices people have in a number of specific situations. Each pilot is personally responsible for finding themselves above/below 50%, and they should have real consequences based on being heavily damaged or not

Oh right, I do have a memory problem. I do not wish your limbs removed, failure.

I feel like the discussion of trader vs. pirate that is happening here is a some kind of reverse straw man argument, or perhaps wasn't made with the strictest intention to stay on topic. This is not about traders vs. pirates... this is about people running from PvP. While I believe the proposed change would indeed benefit pirates in some ways, that's not what I see as the primary argument against the proposed change.

Smittens, why can failure hammer home the heart of the issue, but I cannot hammer my point into your head? Why do you think the status quo only exists when ships are above 50% damage? WHY? Why won't you let me into your heart????

Hehe greenwall it has finally gotten through to me. We simply disagree how much a feature that only comes into play after taking 50% damage (without dishing out ~50%) disrupts the status quo. As you have probably gathered, I believe the answer is 'negligibly' (except for the problem of PvP cowardice being too simple, for which I think it is a sizeable fix)

This thread is dicks.

I especially liked the parts about diplomacy and proclamations of honour in battles.
Somehow it's honourable to run around in your valk for 5 min at 30% while your buddies come back from the dead?

Or

Just because you haven't left the sector to rep, you're still running back to your dent.

Like that somehow carries more honour.

I don't know where I stand on the OP but I did enjoy my days playing X-Wing and the armour, shields, weapons degradation.
