Make storm radars extend fog and normal radar range as well.
That'll give a buff to the Raptor line, make Tridents more useful in groups, and add a bit of value to the now-rarely-used Heavy Storm Radar Extender which basically got mothballed once they stopped working from the cargo hold.
Doesn't the game already have the ability to do this, requiring only a simple stat change on the addons themselves to make it active?

This could make M7 a very dangerous place.
Don't forget the group extender. You're forgetting that fixing it would provide the functionality you're asking for, though rats would have to organize better if they want a crack at the shipyard.
The shared group extender is fixed as of like... a year and a half ago. It performs it's original function now, even in ion storms.

Good. :)

+1 especially if we could work in seeing the types of ships in further sectors in the nearby ships list, but not the transponders if they are not in your current sector
I'm bumping this in light of all the boo-hoo about the UDV. Extended radar range outside of storms would offer the Raptor line an advantage in a number of combat roles.
+1.... push it to 15k in non-storm sectors
perhaps addon radar extenders could extend the radar range of the normal radar when not in a storm or whatever. We might see them having more use in groups and the like. It would also give a new role, AWACS-like taurs or rags with a heavy storm extender and group extender.
push it beyond the sector limits since the sectors are not infinite, they are adjacent
The problem with the adjacency argument is just HOW adjacent. If they're as close as you might think, it should be possible to travel between them without jumping.
Extending radar to additional sectors is a neat idea, but it's a separate suggestion worthy of its own thread.
This thread is for enabling the existing radar extenders to extend range within the same sector when there is no storm or non-storm fog.

But it's a storm radar extender not a no storm radar extender
A radar that has the power to see through storms should be able to see farther when there is no storm.
That's only true if they overcome the storm by simply being more powerful or more sensitive rather than by solving the detection problem in a way that isn't impacted by ion storms.
I'm not disagreeing with the OP, by the way.

I agree with Boda -- it seems completely unsurmountable that the devs would be able to remove the word "storm" from "storm radar". Surely the amount of time and resources it would take to make this change would amount to at least 1 year of complicated and extensive adjustments to the underlying code.
I agree with greenwall. Instead of repurposing storm radars to do things outside of storms, which they were clearly not designed to do, we should extend the capability of powercell blasters.
Powercell blasters:
1. Already have the word power in their name.
2. Clearly indicate that the blaster involves power.
3. Can boost radar with the power they are capable of draining.
4. Can explain their new functionality by explaining that they are actually detecting power cells, rather than ships.
5. Are much better for chasing down long-range targets due to their low weight.
Let's make this happen!

I propose them working in your cargo hold again.
The whole purpose off these storm extenders are to see in storms, which they do. If you want a different type of radar extendar you should make a new topic stating that. But just keep in mind that over a year ago the new trident variants were supposed to be released
+1 to what vskye said.
