Station Bar Bartender

In all stations there would be an NPC docked named Bartender and suffixed with something else. If you mention his name in the bar he will respond to you and get you whatever the local alcoholic drink is.

If you have POS with the faction the station is in, then you can give him money and he will get you the restricted top shelf rare stuff. 10,000 credits. This can only be done if not already under the influence.

imbibing on the top shelf stuff has 2 effects on the player.

1. Graphical. The game will blur a bit and have heavy motion streaks. Every number of seconds the screen completely blacks out for a few seconds.

2. Gameplay. Ship control takes longer to react to player input. Meaning, ship behavior seems a second or so out of sync from player input. Autotargetting is 60% better and the ship is in sync with player input when the player is in a black out phase.

This lasts for 15 min. Drunk players can't take missions.

If you die while drunk the Bartender wont serve you again for 24 hours. If you try, he will berate you on 100 the first time you try.

XP while drunk is 3x normal for anything hostile that is killed (ships that dont fire back dont count and homing missiles dont count).

Various accomplishment badges and such can be attributed to drunken feats.

+1 I really like this one. I doubt it will ever see the light of day, but I think something like this would be friggin cool and immersive.

The only changes I would make would be to give the bartender a name other than Bartender and have him become progressively abusive each time a drunk player tries to buy another drink.

Otherwise, this should be tied into other suggestions regarding the bar, such as missions available and info about players who have recently docked with the station as well as lucrative convoys that are either leaving or arriving from the station in the near future.

Ha, while it may not be the most practical, high priority suggestion I like it. It's a fun idea, and it kinda reminds me of the tavern in the old BBS Tradewars 2002 where you could buy drinks.

Actually a better idea: have an option to rig up a breathalyzer to each person's computer. The drunker you are, the more badges you can unlock as a drunk pilot. This eliminates the need to program in graphical effects and sluggishness, since you are already suffering from that! If you unlock the "Master Homicidal Drunk" badge, you get exclusive access to a new ship, the Corvus PeopleMower, and you also get 4 free trial issues of Sports Illustrated.

Every time a drunken player orders a drink the price doubles, 'cause that's what bartenders do :)

Regarding the not taking missions while drunk bit, does that only impact accepting new missions, or would already underway missions be aborted? My vote would be the former.

I think an exception should be made for missions offered in greyspace, or at least for hive skirmishes.

The only real reason i suggested not being able to take missions was because it might need to ride off the mission system. If it doesn't though.. then that is all up for debate.
