Ship trading: How it might work out.

I would again like to remind everyone that this is only about the ship trading in General. It's for the devs to decide what happens with it and which ships should be tradeable. The nation specific debate has been had several times now and everyone for and against it has had his sayings. Time to focus on getting ship trading in.

Ship trading i seriously doubt is going to be a serious consideration given the pricing model for free to play and all the game mechanics that are balanced on the idea that you can't trade ships. But just in case :

An alternative to directly trading ships would be to allow certain stations in grey space to manufacture the exclusive ships. This gives the "ship trading +1" people what they want and the "ship trading -1" what they really want. Similar in complexity (probably more so) to building a Superlight, it would let opposing factions have access to the others ships while at the same time making it meaningful to lose one in combat. The ease and limitlessness of acquisition in the various trade methods described before is what most people oppose, aside from the free to play concerns.

Having to manufacture each one imposes it's own soft limits that are much more effective than credit cost or standing penalties. It also gets around free to play issues and doesn't introduce anything new except rebadged ships with identical stats to their nation specific ones.

As I pointed out there will be no free to play problems as the only ship they have access to that can pick up a ship only has 140 cu and could only fit an EC variant. Not to mention how much work goes into unlocking this Behemoth, there would be no way for them to get around this.

How f2p people can beat your restrictions:

F2p person gets a friend key, levels up then stockpiles a bunch of XCs.

Are friend keys something that should be continued at this point?

Friend-keys still make sense for new PC users who don't have the option of getting an F2P account if they don't have a mobile device.

That said, I think that ship trade would do more for the game than perpetuating the friend-key system would. So I'd vote in support of dropping friend-key support if it meant adding ship trade.

They could easily do the same by buying a month and then unsubbing. Can you pilotnships that you already have even if you dont have the license requirements?

You cannot do that. The devs made that impossible long ago.
I also like cellsafemodes idea concerning the building of faction exclusives (e.g. Corvus stole some plans etc.). But I believe this deserves a new thread.

Half a year has passed. Can we have it now?

I say revert the ships back to universal access and create new faction specific ships that are even more overpowered.
