Small (gruesome?) suggestion for ship explosions...
True. With the humans gone, the AI can rule at last! Actually, I'd like to see the Frigate's exploding bits be actual objects that would totally cream your ship if they hit you :)
I like how in good ol privateer there were occasionaly body parts in the debris, especially if there was an ejected pilot and you shot them heh, it's a neat effect, really makes you feel like you've accomplished something
Like you mean like when you'd blow up the frigate (when it was destroyable) like chunks of it would go flying off into space
Sweet... It'd be fun to just see an arm sailing off... Ooo! Even better! Once we get multiple-player ships, the owner should (with a group vote or something) be able to push people out the airlock for mutiny! And then you'd see them sailing off (think 2001)... :P
daisy, daisy, tell me your answer, do...
The best part is: Pilots don't have "space suits", they wouldn't be protected from the vacuum effect, so they'd get ripped apart if they didn't already!
Although we're still not sure if there actually is a *person* piloting these ships. Remember: "The ship is your avatar." We could all just be sentient AI existing as computer circuitry onboard each ship. S***... We could all still be inside the matrix! :p
I would also like to see ship explosions cause more damage. ESPECIALLY if you're flying a bigger ship like a rag or a prom.
Ah.. Phaserlight?... That's nice, except for the part of the game story that says were humans cut off and isolated in a far part of the galaxy...
Smurfy! I swear you have ESP or something. Yeah... I wanted carnage too but they weren't too excited about my idea.
=(
On the other hand maybe ships can have explosion FX of their own, with bits and pieces of the exact ship model rather than a generic "boom" explosion with random gibberish floating away.

Wouldnt it be kinda fun if every once and a while, when you destroyed a ship, you saw a space suited, or part of a space suited figure go flipping and floating off into the nothingness of space? :)
Could make it something that the player could turn off, like some games have a violence and blood level setting.
Heck, ya wanna make it really gruesome, give it multiple levels.. on the top violence level... you need window wash to take the eyeball off your screen.. :-D
