Remove the 2x self-damage from mines.
The 2x self-damage from explosions was added a really long time ago to try and fix the problem of rocket ramming.
Somehow mines got lumped in to this category, which makes absolutely no sense. This is why you're more likely to kill yourself using Proximity mines than you are to kill the person pursuing you at anything but full turbo speed.
This is still the case even after making mines persistent, which is sort of baffling.
Suggestion:Exclude mine explosions from the 2x self-damage modifier

I'd go ahead and say that this is a bug, not a suggestion :P
Yeah, probably.
I suggest remove all 2x damage effects.
what the hell is rocket ramming? and why is it bad?
Rocket ramming is charging into somebody who has less armor than you while slinging lots of rockets at close range. It's probably considered "bad" because it relies too much on numbers and not enough on skill (even though actually hitting people with rockets does require skill, and rockets have limited ammunition, so misses can be costly). I wasn't around back then; I don't know how big an issue it was and how much of a problem it would be if the doubling were removed in general.
The double backsplash is intended behaviour. It's just for mines it doesn't make any sense.
For example I could use a Rag3 and instanuke 3 vults around me without even killing myself. That's the consequence of removing it for all damage effects.

Rocket ramming was pretty bad, when it was a problem.
We'll look into removing the double splash for mines.
