I invented it as much as I invented the factions and their backstories and the common sense that fills the gap between that and the game. What's the point in any or all of it if none of it applies and carries over into the game? It may be a sandbox but it's not minecraft. It's a roleplaying game and part of that is the npc world building that gives the sandbox some amount of infrastructure.

Of course it's not Minecraft. Minecraft has a plot and endgame content :P
