talk to all these new mobile players
The devs need to survey these new mobile players for how they think certain aspects of VO affect their gameplay and their decision to subscribe (either moving to a PC or staying on their device).
I have no idea what these people would respond to a simple survey, as I used mobile as a way to demo the game, never considering playing mobile full time would be viable because to me, it's not. At all.
But I suspect a couple things will turn up.
1. The irc style chat is detrimental to the game. It combines everything horrible about irc with all the sociopathic personalities of VO players.
2. The game doesn't specialize a player's decisions in their role in the universe at all. Aside from nation specific ships, anyone within a nation can be Everything. They can attain top level military ships and weapons, top level mining ships and weapons and top level trading ships etc. There is no importance on investing in any role and thus there are no real roles. It defeats the whole sandbod aspect of the game. In real life , a jack of all trades is a master of none. But in VO, you can be a master of all. The lack of importance in choosing a role leads to a lack of immersion in being part of the universe.
That's just what I've asked new players who have tried it out myself combined with my own opinions. Obviously there are an infinie number of things anyone thinks is wrong or needs improving. I just dont think anyone has been seriously asking actual new players (not alts) what they think of the game beyond the superficial asthetics.

The "master of all" thing takes quite a long time. In real life, you could do the same, except you don't live forever. Choosing to focus on one area allows you to become adept at that type of gameplay quicker, through both licenses and actual player ability. What's the point in restricting someone to whatever they pick first anyway?
As for IRC, if you don't like it, /ignore IRC_ and all your problems are solved. If other people don't like it they can do the same.

tarenty, he was referring to the style of chat, not the IRC_ relay. However, his argument against it is really not that great, since really all styles of chat are IRC-style. If you have specific problems with the chat system, it would be better to spell them out, rather than try to generalize in a manner that tells us nothing.
Hmm, I don't think there is a suggestion here.
I think the suggestion is that mobile users will agree with him.
I tried playing briefly on my phone and gave it up. That said...
1. I'm not sure why this should be unique to mobile players, however, it is the sociopathic personalities of VO players that keep me playing VO after all these years... Want VO to feel like a vacuum?
2. Again, not sure why this should be unique to mobile players. I wholeheartedly agree that there should be more for players to invest their resources / time in while pursuing specific roles beyond the silly license system.
