new "transferable ships" idea
seems like the biggest problem of making ships transferable is someone getting their hands on a nation specific ship other than their own. as it stands now you can load a ship and jettison, but no one else can pick it up. get rid of this and add a similar system for nation specific ships only. just add a check to see if the nation of the character matches that of the nation specific ship, and only allow them to pick it up if they match. all other faction specific ships need not have this. this would be one of the benefits to implementing this. i think it far less damaging for someone to get around faction standings than nation standings when buying a ship. this would also add SO much to player economy. anyone who wants to attempt to clean up what ive said please feel free
-1. Too magic. If shit is floating in space and I have a sufficient cargo hold, I can scoop it. End of story.
A better solution is to have nations pay attention to what ship you are flying and respond appropriately. If I'm a UIT and I'm flying around in Itani space in a Valk that I shouldn't have access to, the Itani should view that as me having contraband. I would take a faction penalty as well as become temp-kos for the duration of my use of the ship. Similarly, if I flew that Valk into Serco space, they should see me as an enemy and attack. If either of their convoys saw me in grey or UIT space, they should also attack, and possibly phone home so I'd get the faction penalty. Probably nobody would care about non-UITs flying UIT ships though, other than the UIT themselves.
This setup wouldn't stop people from selling Valks and Proms to pirates who either operate only in greyspace or who don't care about their national standings, but I don't see that as a problem. A black market is totally appropriate for this game, and the pirates/non-nationals would still have significantly reduced access due to the need to find other players who were willing to haul and sell the ships, as well as the inability to move more than a few ships at a time even with a trident.

someone step in if im wrong but i think its the devs intentions to keep nation specific EXCLUSIVE for that nation. no work arounds. doesnt that somewhat tie into the reasons for changing the UDV to 2LPs? a black market isnt necessarily a bad thing unless its specifically what the devs wanted NOT to happen. as it stands now its even more magical. i jettison ANY ship out and only i can pick it up. seems simple enough to let other players pick up any ships arent a nation-specific ship. youre really only bringing up the debate of something being too magical versus actual beneficial gameplay that EVERYONE has wanted FOREVER. i think gameplay should rule out in a game set in space where a ship can turn on the drop of a dime which would be pretty magical to see.
in short...definitely not end of story.
Yes end of story. If non-nationals definitely cannot be allowed to have it, then it should not be jettisoned. The idea that I can't simply pick up a cargo crate is ludicrous.... unless you want to make it explode in my face when I try to pick it up. A self destruct to prevent unauthorized use would be acceptable. I wouldn't +1 that since I'm a proponent of unlimited p2p black markets, but at least it wouldn't be magic untouchable loot.
Also, since when can you jettison ships at all? I thought the devs disabled that when they remembered that jettisoned ships lack engines. If you're talking about the ability for you to unload a ship into your station inventory, that is something different. If you can actually jettison it into space and only you can scoop it up, then yes, I am opposed to that as well and it should be fixed.

^ uhhh yeahh... did this change recently? I'm fairly certain this was squashed by the devs.
In any case, my understanding is that the inability to transfer ships from player to player presently has nothing to do with faction exclusivity. It has to do with intricate devromancy that takes time and prioritization.
I'm with rin, cargo should be able to be picked up by anyone. Attaching events to pickup specific cargo is fine (like ctc), but it shouldn't be restricted.

I think I still have a ship or two in Odia that dropped, and you still just float in space after launch.
just tested it and it appears that both of you (grenwall and rin) are correct. i have dropped a ship before though. but really greenwall kinda hit my nail on the head:

fair enough.
and to rin: touchet.
in the end we all just want player to player ship trade and i was trying to think of something to address any downsides the devs may have felt would come of it. i guess we can only wait for this to reach the top of the list. in the mean time ill just pretend to sell ships to myself
edit: and apparently i dont know how it italicize either

Bb, newb.
When player to player ship trade comes, I have about 1B reserved solely for ship purchases from other players. I'm expecting to pay about about 500K to 1M per ship.
thanks rin. that was helpful. i guess i didnt start this thread for nothing after all.
