Just rename officially the ship craptor, so nobody will ever be fooled when buyin' it.
Haha, well, I am obviously listening (and posting). So, I may tweak the UDV in the near term, I'm not ruling that out. In the meantime, let's focus more on the specific suggestions themselves.
Change 2 small ports to 2 large ports.
+1 For two large ports. Quick change that would fix many problems .

How about some tweaks to the Mark I and Mark II as well?

I'm glad to see this picked up so greatly. I will summarize the ideas that have been brought up until now shortly again:
- Profile reduce
- 2 large ports (+ Profile reduce?)
- built-in cargo scanner like the Greyhound has
- A Turret port so it can become the first fighter class ship with a gunner in
- Third port
- Apply changes to the Mark1&2 too
Thanks for considering the changes incarnate!

For the UDV Raptor only...
+1 to 2 large ports + some profile reduction
possible +1 to an additional 3rd small port for cargo scanner or weapon tradeoff + some profile reduction
-1 to everything else... those sound like different variations that should have their own thread

1. Profile reduce
2. Change 2 small ports to 2 large ports
3. built-in cargo scanner like the Greyhound has be better without changing the core concept.
4. A Turret port so it can become the first fighter class ship with a gunner in
5. Third port
6. Apply changes to the Mark1&2 too
Above are the suggestions. Thank you for summarizing them. IMO, 1, 2 and 4 are the best options for the following reasons:
1. The ship is already somewhat unique in intended application. This allows it to retain the original design without being cannon fodder.
2. If we are going to change the ship design, we need to make something we don't have....not a crappy implementation of something we already do. We have no shortage of 2 port fighter vessels. Grab a Valk and throw a small storm extender in one port, and you have a raptor that does not suck. We do not have a fighter with 2 large ports. This would make the raptor truly unique and something to be feared.
4. I really don't like this idea for the simple reason that it makes the raptor so situational where you have a 2nd person, but they don't have a great ship, that it really doesn't offer anything to make the average pilot choose it. How many atlas ships do you see with a gunner? Exactly. It only happens when Spence gets bored.
Here is the reason we don't want to do 3 and 5.
3. We already have a greyhound. The greyhound is sleek, fast, and deadly. Make new better stuff, not worse implementations of old stuff.
5. We already have a Valk and cormaud. Make new better stuff, not worse implementations of old stuff.
Which brings us to 6. We have options here. We don't have to do only one thing. We can give the udv large ports. We can make the mk2 smaller. We can give the mk1 a turret. These are just examples, but we have 3 platforms to play with to get this right.

This thing getting 2L ports after all the insane bitching and moaning about how the Hound would be insanely OP with 2L ports even though dual inline megaposi is the obvious loadout for an energy chaser?

Lecter, to be fair, the hound has a much slimmer forward profile, and while a glass cannon, it is an infini-turbo ship that charges while it chases and is the equivalent of a green bean vs a tomato when in a head to head fight. They are different ships. That being said....sometimes things do need to be OP for a bit to change the dynamics and get people to experiment and try new things.
Right now we have a 3 ships that nobody uses, and a very small subset of best-in-class ships that everyone uses. Be open minded, have some fun experimenting, and let's go raptoring!

Lecter is irrelevant.
+1 to the 2 large ports and the profile reducing
and the hecks up with you lecter? you never play this game anyway why give non-sense comments on a ship you never even saw cause you didn't log in haha.

It's cute you nooblets think you know when I'm in-game and what's relevant. The fact remains that every time anyone has suggested a 2 Lport small or medium warship, otherwise excellent suggestions have been nerfbatted into the dustbin over cries about how 2 Lports are just too OP for any such craft.
The Craptor, especially the UDV, just isn't shitty enough to be a special case. Whatever it needs, what it gets shouldn't be something so out of left field. If the Devs finally sack up and go in that direction, though...the Rune, the Prom 2, and the Hound all need to become 2 Lport/0 S-port ships. People crying about swarm spamming runners be damned.

I love how we constantly determine what is overpowered by what can beat a valk or a prom....VO is supposed to be rock paper scissors....yet we don't do things that would help stimulate player activity for fear of something actually creating a challenge for the best in class ships.
Ya, we need something that can beat a prom or valk, so long as something can beat it.
I don't understand why Inc says he's open to suggestions on how to improve the UDV when he knows full well that none of us know whatever it is he has in store that will make it "more useful". All of our suggestions are based on the current state of VO (all, aside from Lecter's fantasy version inside his head). And since it's supposed to change in the near future (TM), it would seem that we are being asked to spin our wheels unnecessarily here.
There is broad consensus that 2 L ports is the way to go. Make it so!

I seriously doubt ship to ship combat is going to change all that much with whatever thing Inc has up his sleeve.
Unless... he's planning on fixing the way flare triggers work!

We're agreed then....2 large ports.
"Ya, we need something that can beat a prom or valk, so long as something can beat it."
I've beaten valks with a stock behemoth. Learn to fly.

Itani and Serco already have ships that are the only one in their class (SCP is the only medium fighter with heavy armor, Valk is the only 3 port light fighter)
What's so wrong with giving the UIT the only 2 L-port fighter? Do it.
Also: Don't buff the hound anymore. It's already the best damn thing out there for most situations.
