Nation War route NFZ? Newbie friendly plea.
Just started playing VO recently, and wanted to give a Nation War a shot during NW #400. Was told that newbies would be encouraged to participate, as the prize money would be split among the winning team. Problem is that when I entered Sedina, en route to the NW sector, I was jumped by several pirates and killed instantly. Just a thought that maybe there should be a rule that the NW system, at least the wormhole sector, should be a no-fire-zone just prior to the NW start. As a newbie, not being able to get to the war, even to spectate, is a real downer. Sorry if I sound whiny. I understand that this sort of behavior is apparently well accepted, but it was a pretty depressing experience and I'd really like to see something done to address it if possible.
The best thing to do is to ask for an escort ahead of time.
If you have a Fast Charge cell this can make you hard to catch in many ships, especially those that have only 50 Turbo Energy Drain.
Sedina B8 is sometimes the most dangerous sector in the universe... when you are entering a hot sector if you wish to avoid combat it's best to have a Nav Route plotted ahead of time; turn as soon as you enter the sector and turbo out to your jump point. Time is of the essence.
If you wish, you can also check out my guild's piracy wiki for further information.
Welcome to VO, and hope that helps :-).

Thanks, that does help quite a bit, actually. I appreciate the helpful and kind feedback.
My advice is to simply get to Sedina early. Bring in whatever ship you intend to use during the war and leave it in one of the stations, then home at that station. Fly a different ship out and go do whatever until it's time (without changing your home station). Then when it's 5-10 minutes before start, you can grab an EC-89 and /explode back to your home station. Grab the ship you left there, and fly to the sector. Ideally, do this at one of the Xang Xi stations; people will be less likely to kill you outside it.
And if you don't likes that... You can always pay off the pirates.
To add to this I'm pretty sure there's not one pirate that will attack you withen, 15 to 30 minutes before the fight. Unless you are in a trade ship carrying tradgoods. Especially if you announce you are homing for the fight.
If you group up with your team ahead of time and travel together, it's usually much safer.

Not always...

maybe there should be a rule...
No, there shouldn't. Should you have any further questions, I refer you to the name of the game.

Next time before ye enter gray, act girly on 100 it may werk.......... or not
Grouping with your team early is the way to go, they will be most interested in getting you to the event start.
Most pirates accept a very meager sum from new players, like 50-100 credits.
1. Stop often and re-home so you don't have to travel as far.
2. DON'T just ignore pirates and hope they won't catch you, they will.
3. DO engage them in discussion, most want you to enjoy the game and will let you pass for the meager sum mentioned above.

I really appreciate all the input guys. These are things new people like me need to know! Sadly, though, I was attacked within 5 minutes of the NW, with not so much as a hail or attempt at communication before I was fragged. I retract my original ideas wholeheartedly. Thanks again for all the advice!
There are some players who are just there to attack and don't really contribute in the game any more than the hive bots do, but they are rare.
