About Capship's shield effect advise:
I suggest change all capital ship's shield hitting effect:
just expand the shield's range to spherality or elliptic shape(it determine by ship's shape) and fix its center to the ship's center;
then only bright a area of shield which being hitting(the range of brightness better determine by hitting weapon's damage);
and make the bright effect just like a water's wave spread from the hitting center to the surrounding shield's surface(this will be so prefect!!!)
of course,expand shield will bring a problem that how about small ship enter capship's shield range?
I think allies allow enter shield range or them can not to dock; then enemies will be block out of the shield!
then how about two capship crashing together?
just block them out buy their shield's surface (of course,this crashing level will make each capship's shield energy reduce)
that's all,it will really make this game better and more cool in it. I believe most players will love this so much:D

Cos like, I can't understand what you're saying, and if its a graphics suggestion curt really never fails to impress, the new capgauss is epic for instance, bits of metal from your ship blow off when you're hit by it incase you hadn't noticed that.

Then I really want that all ships can own a shield!!!
small ship's shield can design like a capship's one I mention above,but it won't keep charging like a capship's one.
Hitting should reduce shield's energy,and then could let it auto low speed recharge when u keep a short time did't been hit.
Then this game would more fun and reasonable!

plus add a auto repair and refill ammo option while small allied ships are in the capship shield envelop without havin' to waste time to dock!

Not for capital ships, this would be kinda pointless not having regeneration that is constant.

It's done that for ages, actually. Look close, they're the same bits of metal that come out if an EC explodes.

if by ages you mean since curt updated the capital gauss graphics, yes, it's done that for ages.

All the things you're talking about are pretty heavy-duty shaders. We have a laundry list of new effects we're going to target, and many of the things mentioned here are things I've considered and we'll continue to look into. But they probably won't be available on mobile, for instance. Stuff like alpha-blended shockwave effects that make shields briefly visible.. that's no biggie on a gaming PC, but probably not on mobile.
Anyway, I welcome ongoing feedback on graphical stuff you would like to see, as always. I have a very specific goals that I'm aiming for, and most of my near-term stuff is intended to be "maximum bang for the buck".. so major changes to lighting and other areas that will impact the entire game, and not just one set of assets. But, I would like to enhance everything.
FYI: Not to diminish Curt's evolution as an artist, or his contributions, but he's basically an intern working on extremely specific and limited goals that I define. He would not be involved in anything being discussed here.. this stuff is a lot more involved.

I think for now the shields are fine, they're not shabby, and they're not state-of-the-art, but I think other graphical aspects need more attention than this one.
Agreed ...the shields is fine ....have many others things where needs for new other graphical s or new aspects in game....
