So, small port avalons with a minor nerf..
Rofl.
Rofl.
That's not a minor nerf, that's a huge nerf.
We need more torpedo type weapons. Content is good. It's the same deal with Sunflares/Jackhammers. Slightly nerfed, and made s/port. There's no reason this could not be interesting. Plus it relies on piloting skill more than avalons due to the zero velocity from the launcher.
Stop being such a child, instead of laughing, argue the merits of the idea.

What argument do you need? Small port rockets doing 10k damage? In the past week the suggestions get dumber and dumber. "Large ports for UDV Raptors!" "Haxstorms 2s 6l 1t!" "10k dmg rockets for light fighters!" What the hell will we hear next? What the hell..... jebus. Hide your Tridents boys! Light fighters with 80,000-120,000 damage in a few seconds are inbound. "Gimme arguements you child" lol.
"Stop being such a child, instead of laughing, argue the merits of the idea."
..and what do I do when the idea has no merits?

Oh shut up Shatterdome you ignorant prepubescent fuckstain. If you think you can do better, then go ahead and suggest, I'll be happy to shit all over your parade.
"..and what do I do when the idea has no merits?"
Then you say -1, and that is all, you loudmouth. Keep your snide comments to yourself.

First rule of shatterdoming: it's a trap!
Don't worry Shatterdome, 'ignorant prepubescent fuckstain' is a pet name. It means he idolizes you on many levels.
The Raptor having 2 L ports suggestion was based on its original performance stats and the argument that is was supposed to be some type of light attack ship. I've yet to play with the UDV; it may actually not need them now. As to the argument in this thread, what I think needs doing is to determine what role different ships will have then determine which additional weapons (if any) are needed to flesh out those roles.
I've always felt the following:
* Fighters/Escorts should have S ports (and never L ports)
* Assaults/Bombers should have L ports (and if they have S ports, only 1 or 2 at most)
* Fighters should have light armor. Bombers should have heavy armor.
* Fighters should be as light as tin foil. Bombers should weigh in like loaded Behemoths.
* Bombers should probably have turrets.
* Small rockets and beam weapons should tend towards being S port weapons (there are exceptions obviously, but L port beam weapons should on average have higher yield than S port ones)
* Torpedoes and weapons with ammo limits should tend towards being L port weapons (since the port is holding the ammo clip as well as the weapon)
Each ship should have an effective role. What I've noticed however is a tendency of people trying to say "I have my favorite ship; I want it to do all roles. So it's either nerfed or I need weapons of all classes for it!" This is wrongheaded. We should understand that different ships have different purposes, then decide if our characters are going to specialize in those roles. Personally, my mindset is towards bombers and assault craft; I'm not a PvP'er, but I can bullseye a queen at 1500-2000m with Jacks or get in and out of station assaults repeatedly without a scratch (even when there are defenders). I love the thought process involved in setting up a good bomber run. I'd love to see more missions specifically for bombers/assaults. There is nothing wrong with specialization for pilots.
That being said, S ports should not have torpedo like weapons. True, we should have more torpedoes, but they should always be restricted to L ports.

Torpedos are bomber weapons. If the problem here is that our bombers can't carry enough torpedos to be effective, then we need better bombers.

Well exiled, you misunderstand the concept of the suggestion forums. This is not a parade, and its not about who "does better" or who can take a shit.
-1. No S-port weapon should have a bigger splash radius than an Avalon. That's just silly.
As far as the basic idea of non-propelled bombs, I prefer my old Anvil proposal. Heavier, packs a bigger punch, uses the more appropriate L-port, and doesn't fuck around with a big splash radius.

ARF, I totally agree. Right now, to call the Rag a "bomber" is a misnomer. First, we need bombs (or really big torps), then ships to use them. Personally, I'd prefer a ship with a fair number of L ports and turrets as a bomber.
Keller, back in 2011 we didn't have bombs. Avalons definitely fit the bill, though they could use a few tweaks that're better discussed elsewhere.
