I'm not going to argue whether locking non-faction members out of valks and proms was a good idea. It's implemented, and we'll see how it works out. We're going to ignore the fact that this update was kind of a sucker-punch to everyone who had weapons, batteries, scanners, etc stockpiled in Jallik or Initros.
What I am going to argue, is that Corvus and UIT should be mutually exclusive in the same way Itani and Serco are.
You're going to point to the back-story. Fix the back-story, this is a good idea.
As it stands, the military factions have access to top-tier ships no other race can obtain. Meanwhile, the rogue player who formerly maintained Serco or Itani Admired for the purpose of ships finds themselves in a situation where the ships they are most likely to buy for their daily combat is also available to every other faction, with no restrictions whatsoever. Give the outlaws something to call their own. The UIT are going to have their new Raptor. The Itani and Serco have their respective ships. The outlaws should have their Corvults, Cormauds, and Greyhounds.
Give Corvus some exclusivity. Players that choose to pursue a career on the shady side of the law should not be surprised when they are no longer admired by UIT.

Yeah, this definitely goes hand in hand with the changes today.

How dare you suggest we alter the backstory!
Good idea. +1
I'd rather see everyday actions affect your faction standing. It'd stop everyone being such a wuss about shooting in nation space.
But +1 for now.
But +1 for now.
I completely agree with this. If we're locking the factions up then the rogue player needs something. Especially since they already have a diverse set of ships; anything from the vulture to the maud and the greyhound for chasing. You wouldn't really have to tweak anything other than the faction exclusivity itself.
I have no objections to this.
In fact, going a step further, I think 'Admire with UIT, Dislike with Corvus' would make a lot more sense for the UDV than the current 'Admire with UIT, Dislike with Serco/Itani'.

+1 OP
Can someone explain the reasoning for the UDV dislike demand? It is already UIT-nationals only because of the hard cap at 600 for others. Why deny the UDV to someone who has good standing in another nation, and why not do the same to valks/proms?

vanatteveldt: Is that actually how it works? In the patch notes, it is stated like this:
New Raptor UDV available in UIT stations, requires high Admire standing with UIT, also minimum of Dislike with both Serco and Itani.
It says "minimum", not "maximum", so if that was not written erroneously it means that the UDV is unavailable to people who are KOS with either Itani or Serco, not that it is denied to people with high Itani/Serco standing. But I wouldn't be surprised if the devs just botched the explanation. So my question is, has anybody actually tested to confirm which way it works?

A minimum of dislike both, Itani and Serco, while being admired with the UIT. That means anyone, even Serco/Itani who are from dislike to KOS with 'both', the Itani and Serco, and admired by UIT , get the ship.
Back on topic, this is such a good idea. The more I think about it, the more possibilities I see. There would be a lot of diversity and interactions going on in game. This last update and this idea are the best things for the game. A quick example of the good change: Yesterday I asked a trader for weapons delivered to Serco dominion and he couldnt make any profit because he chose to have standing with Itani instead of being neutral after the update to keep his access to Valks, immediately loosing on a lot of money making potential. He was flying all over the universe easily before that, and flying whatever ship he likes. Then I PM another trader who chose to be neutral and he made millions in a few minutes. So the point is you gotta choose a path and everyone has roles now.You gotta choose if you wanna make millions or fight. Before this update everyone was everything, so to speak. We were all traders/fighters/pirates/Promjocks and Valkjocks all in one.It wasnt fun at all.The game was stale. It lacked interaction and conflict.
This idea furthers the benefits of the last update. I hope the Rogues get the exclusivity and the awesome new UIT raptor gets a further little tweak, but as Incarnate said, and I think that way that making the raptor special and interesting rather than all out fighter is the best idea.

there was a time when I would have been opposed to this, but now I find myself thinking its a good idea too. I could use a RP viable way to reduce my UIT standing.

Interesting. I was considering doing this as part of the last update, but thought it might be kind of "too much all at once".
Since I was going to do it anyway, I'm clearly in favor of a mutual exclusivity like this; but it does have to be handled carefully, because Corvus is the "last ditch" place where people are automatically located if they're bounced out of their homed station due to faction loss. So, generally, we don't let people get Hated by Corvus.
But, I can make a bit milder version of mutual exclusivity for this case, or one that scales further on the UIT side than it does on the Corvus side.
A minimum of dislike both, Itani and Serco, while being admired with the UIT. That means anyone, even Serco/Itani who are from dislike to KOS with 'both', the Itani and Serco, and admired by UIT , get the ship.
I never thought so many people would be confused by the use of "minimum". Minimum means the lowest it can be, not the highest it can be. "Dislike" is -600. Lower than that would be, say, "Hated" (-601 to -999) or "KoS" (-1000). So, yes, you have to have at least "Dislike" standing.
The description explicitly says:
"Unusually for a factional variant, this ship has minimum "Dislike" stand requirements with both the Serco and Itani, as the UIT Military does not wish it to be used in any way that could jeopardize UIT trading contracts."
I'll.. change it to make an example or something, since it seems so commonly misinterpreted.

I guess most people that were confused, including yours truly, had only read the update text. The description makes it perfectly clear. But why not just "Dislike or better standing" or something like that. The confusion is whether minimal talks about direction or about magnitude, by using a word with an explicit direction the confusion is taken away.
I've since changed the description, as I said I would.
