As of right now, turret ports are only available on trading vessels and capital ships. I ask why.

Turrets can be very helpful on combat vessels. They can cover your back while you're preoccupied with other targets. They can help compensate for any piloting inaccuracy while engaging a target. They can allow the pilot to perform more complex evasive maneuvers and still attack since he or she does not have to keep the nose of the craft pointed at the target. They can engage their own targets in a group combat situation. They can do lots of things. So why do we not have turrets available on combat vessels?

Just for the sake of discussion, here's an Atlas variant for this purpose that I pulled out of my ass.

The TPG Atlas Type X is already pretty combat-worthy.

These are small fighter class ships. The number of ships with turrets in this category should be small. If you want more turrets, then we need more ships in the trident class.

we need ships that are just turrets. Like, a box with 6 turrets.

I think all the heavy ships need turrets, eg rags, proms. Especially the rag needs a turret to be able to defend itself while conducting a bombing raid.

The rag can defend itself while conducting a bombing raid, it gets this weapon called a hull explosion, it has excellent burst damage.
