PDA Web Portal
First off, I don't know if this idea is even possible, much less practical. Nevertheless, I could not help noticing in just the last few days since I've resumed play how many times someone has referred a new player to the VO - Wiki or to check out the guild list. There is a lot of good information out there that I've benefited from, and that I think might enhance new player experience, since would not have to leave the game to access the information they want.
That said, my suggestion is meant as a down the road, back burner idea if it is possible. Provide a web portal through the player PDA that is limited exclusively to VO related websites that provides links to key information, guild home pages, relevant videos- I don't know if they are still up, but at one point Ghost iirc had some combat tutorials posted on YouTube.

SOE once implemented a basic web browser into Everquest.
It sucked.
Use a real web browser.

no. this is not a reasonable use of the devs efforts.
I could have sworn I saw momerath42 talking about testing something like this years ago.
+meh. EVE has one of these and I found it handy back when I played. I generally opted to just use firefox on my second monitor instead, but not everybody has one of those. I'd rather see gameplay improvements though.
It is actually possible to make a simple browser plugin already. I don't know if it could handle images, but you can definitely make one that handles text. (Yeah yeah, I know, doesn't help the newbs.)
