Make Avalons/TU knock out powercell
Nuclear missile detonations are known to cause an electro-magnetic pulse, as such it's appropriate that our fancy sci-fi nukes knock the power out of you, as well as damage and concussion.
I suggest adding 550 power drain to the Avalon Torpedo and the BioCom Tellar Ulam.

+1 to adding this to the BioCom Teller Ulam Mine only.
Avalons weigh less, carry more ammo, use much less energy to fire, and are easier to obtain.

+1 for the T/U, given its astronomical cost and defensive application.
-1 for the Avalon, which is a pure damage-dealer...they need more buffing, but not in this way.

With the same area of effect radius?
Power reserves would only be a concern if you survived the damage.
Should the EM pulse have a much greater radius than the blast radius?

What is it with you and all these power drain suggestions?

It's a cool new game mechanic! What other reason do you need?

Perhaps after the explosion, it leaves the blast radius in a 10-minute power-drain area?
No, that would be better for a new weapon.
If it's an EM pulse the radius should be huge, like 20k meters.
Real world EMPs diminish quickly with distance (the signal "surface" expanding and diminishing equivalently). Lightning strikes produce EMPs, for instance. The popular concept of wide-area "nuclear" EMPs are more about the secondary interaction of gamma rays with the atmosphere over a large area, usually at high altitude, which doesn't really apply in any real way to space combat.
So, I don't know what it "should" be, obviously the effects can be whatever want. Long range effects would be interesting, but probably not a good idea for a common weapon that can be obtained in quantity.

I was just making a too subtile joke that a weapon that powerful should be devastating to the wielder as well as the target. I'm not actually in favor of doing this. :)
