groupings of players
mmhm.
i agree, your post covers part of what i intend. but.
i want more than that.
i want specific chat binds that allow for quick and precise coordination of actions.
i want transmission of target infos so you can "attack my target".
i want that "tethering" thingy.
i admit, i am asking for a bit much. but i don't expect it to be implemented anytime soon.
p.s.: the pm thingy will be fixed, or so i was told by Vendetta Helpdesk... is that the guide, a dev or a player?

Yea, I like your ideas Tosh. I was just thinking more along the lines of the barebones stuff that we can get put in soon. Yours is much more forward thinking.
"that there should be a way to keep the orientation of the ship fixed so you can look around without boosting or actually changing the direction in which your ship points."
Sorry Tosh, but try physics mode :)

/me glares at tfb: what makes you think i use anything else but physics mode?
and did you read my post? i said "without changing the direction in which your ship points" meh.
and transmission of targets:
i want it to be selective. not only attack/defense (although that would already be a huge improvement) but also different targets for different players. scenario? 4 serco vults, 2 itani valks. the leader wants both destroyed. so he assigns two to one, and hismelf and his wingman to the other. so he needs to assign targets individually.

Ah, cool. Cool.
Nice features, nice discussion.
Personally, I'd be a more than a little upset at this thread if I were the person who posted the other, basically identical thread a few hours earlier. (yes I peeked at it and yes its got everything but the tether...)
But, oh well. I'm used to seeing people try to steal the idea in other game forums.. why not here too huh?
Its fine if it happens, but hey. Try reading at least the page of posts that's currently active before posting something new.. That way we have less people upset at each other and we don't end up flaming the doubled posts...?

admittedly, it might look like i stole the ideas from CaeddaCompany's thread. only i didn't. i hadn't read his thread before posting my own. hopefully, my past history of posting will provide me with a good reputation and not that of a plagiarist.
i apologize in full for posting a nearly identical post, it was not my intention.
however, i would like to point out that my ideas are, although similar in intention, still different in detail.

Well, thanks. Only reason it bugs me is to see someone not get any credit.. :) Long as you mention them its all good.
it's just a suggestion, has probably been thought of before and also posted on, but with the current lack of a search future, i'll just post anew... hehe ^_^;;
it would be nice if the flying in groups of two or more were encouraged more.
that could be done in three ways (one not canceling out the other):
1. create some sort of "hotline" between players that allows them to use special binds or key combinations so that they can quickly transmit information. how this could work is actually taking shape as an idea, will elucidate on this in a later post, hopefully...
while this can be done with /msg binds at present, the procedure is very tedious. i am not saying this should be implemented immediately or anytime soon (i wager it'd take up great amounts of resources such as time and manpower), but it would be nice to have in the final game.
2. there already was a suggestion that "tethering" ships should be possible.
why not use this to accomplish the sort of thing described below?
if you could choose something like "form on left of <xxx>", a bit like the autopilot command. it would indicate where you'd have to go (like the blue arrows showing in what direction one should turn to face the enemy and a speed indicator of the craft that you link to).
the advantages of this would be that you could still target other ships, so that you would not be vulnerable to surprise attacks because your target "slot" is occupied and you're trying to match speed and positions rather than look at the radar all the time.
maybe this would require another suggestion made to be implemented: that there should be a way to keep the orientation of the ship fixed so you can look around without boosting or actually changing the direction in which your ship points.
3. for groups of larger than two, private messages will not suffice.
if possible, "chatrooms" should be implemented to avoid cluttering up teamchat with messages like "fall in line".
there will be a post of my own following this up ±immediately. if interested in this, please respond :P
P.S.: again, i'd like to point out that i do not intend this to be a pressing matter.
i simply would like to see this happen at some point in the final game, what's with guilds and stuff.

okay: here's what i was talking about in the above post:
seeing that this takes great time of testing and tryout, which can be done by others than GSW (this is grunt work. i am merely suggesting that we let them do the hard part...), i am
Looking for a "fellow pilot" or "wingman" (not for ever, just for a set amount of time)
to test and try out what binds this system would require.
Disclaimer: I will not be your superior. The idea is to be peers ("rank", not skill).
Requirements:
You can be of any color, but of course I would prefer a Serco pilot (to avoid friendly fire). If you are absolutely against switching to red, I will have no problem switching to another color for the duration of this.
You also have to respect me (as I have to respect you) to the extent of wanting to protect me from any harm whilst testing, just as I will have to be ready to act the same way towards you.
This latter point is of great importance in my opinion.
Contact: I am playing fairly often. You could try to reach me in-game.
Basically, the testing would incorporate three different things:
flying as wingmen (one looking out for the other),
flying as a wolfpack (a bit like above, but more independence) and
flying in echelon formation (well, not so much formation, priority is set on communication).
For the third thing I will require more than one person (obviously) and on top of that people would have to endure our chatter via teamchat, so i guess I can rule that one out from the testing.

Hehe, count me in :)
I can create a serco char and join in if you would like
How about special chat channels that are accesible through more than just t and T. Like t is global chat. Shift t [T] is team chat, shift 1-5 [!,@,#,$,%] is squadron chat which PM's everyone in your squad, shift 0 [)] is a private message to whoever you're targetting.
The squadrons would work through a simple console command. /join <squad leader>. So if I were the squad leader Sir Frog would type: /join Magus to join my squad. Magus gets a PM from the prospective joiner which he can either accept (/accept Sir Frog) or deny by simply ignoring it. Naturally, people on your ignore list wouldn't be able to join your squad and you would have to be in the same sector as the squad leader to join. Sound like a plan?

This has been sugested many times. I wholeheartedly think that we do need a system where "Team Leader" /createteam "Flying Apples"
Then everyone who wants to join goes /jointeam "Flying Apples"
They are made into a seperate team and maybe givin a different radar color.

Tethering, yes, Good idea to allow one ship to control some others, or for ships to follow on identical courses.
Transmission of targets, in my thread below.
Chat Binds, coordinating with teams.. in my thread below..
Just, wondering why you didnt post the tether idea as an add on instead of making a second thread out of this. That's all.

It would also be nice to have your team permanently highlighted in blue or orange or some other color. Just so you can keep track of where they are without deselecting your target.
/me points to the thread on team fighting, attack and defense formation modes... located a few items down..
Odd I started it only 3 hours before this one...
Its the Attack/Defend mode thread..
