Purpose: Lightweight low damage Ion cannon which fires charged particles emitting no visible light.
Specs:
Port: Small
Damage: 250
Velocity: 210
Energy: 10
Delay: .16
Mass: 200kg
Grid: 4
Level: 9/9/*/*/*
Rep: Aeolus +800 (POS)
Additional thoughts: This weapon would be perfectly at home with a pair of Ravens, Law Neuts, AAPs, etc. The low damage and high speed would make it an ideal sparring weapon, but a substandard chase weapon since the DPE is very low. The shots, if not invisible, would be black, emitting no visible light, but possibly blocking background light. This would give us something new to play with, creating new ship loadout combinations and adding a new dimension to dogfights.

+1.....cool idea...
This would also be very easy* to implement, by copying the Raven, changing shot color to black, changing a few stats and making them purchasable at the single Aeolus station. I forgot to list price above, but it should be on par with the AAP rather than a low-cost weapon like the Raven.

This is actually a pretty nice idea. Black would seem better, since invisible would be a bit silly (people whining about lag, "ooh that didn't hit me, bs" etc). Black already blends in to the background for the most part and would be crazy hard to see, but that's the appeal. It might also give a nice pirate type feel as well.

-1 to invisible hurt you things. It's already bad enough when the game mysteriously appears gatlings and flares on you because of lag.
+1 it's not invisible -- but camouflaged... a new challenge for the experienced pvper and an lends an advantage to the inexperienced.
So we're adding a new weapon that's too sucky for anything but sparring, and is only added for the cool visual effect factor?
-1 as suggested. Make it truly stealthy--black visual, no flashing attacker indicator, no hit indicating sound--and then we can talk. Purpose is as a first strike weapon to hurt an opponent before they can realize that they're under attack at all, much less by whom.

-1 (that will teach you tell people what to 1+ on IRC!)
Lecter and TRS don't count. This weapon is for people who actually play the game! :P
lol, told. :)
that shoots very fast for the little energy required.
It saves power by not emitting light... But seriously, it's on par with the Raven since the damage output is lower. I didn't just want an invisible Raven. New things need to be as good or better than existing things or we end up with another gat hv.
The Gatling HV would be a lot better weapon if not for a quirk in the game engine that makes it fire significantly slower than it says so. (0.128 vs 0.075)

WRONG. It uses power/energy exactly the same, only difference is that it's invisible to humans due its frequency... What you say is that an Infrared or Ultraviolet lamp saves energy because you cannot see its "light".
And it must do damage as any other weapon, with screen flashing, damage indicator, sounds, etc... only harder to trace since they're not visible...
+1 for a weapon with black shots / invisible
-1 for a weapon that you can damage other without their knowledge.

if they build such a weapon they should create an addon that allows to see the shots when equipped.
High frequency Particle beam detector addon, small port grid tbd
and if it is as buggy as the ion storm radar may Davy Jones bless the Devs :p

How fucking hard is it to "trace" when the shooter's name flashes on your screen?
Let me rephrase: how fucking hard is it to "trace" when the shooter's name flashes on your screen, assuming you are smarter than Alloh?

Alloh finds it hard to navigate around the candies the monsters laid for him because he tried to lock them in the closet. He probably tripped on them while tracing them back to their invisible crates.
I think Savet was talking about thermal energy, Alloh. As in the weapon is more efficient by imparting a lot of kinetic energy and very little thermal energy while launching the projectile, with the result being that the projectile doesn't glow in the visible range and moves faster than it would if part of the firing energy had been wasted heating up the projectile.
