I like the intersector relays ideas. However, I think that any member of a nation should at all times be able to communicate with their home sector. Say that the homesector base has a giant radio transponder or whatever. But I think it would really revitalize the homesectors if you could chat to and from anywhere when you were in a homesector, but you needed to have (expensive) radio relays in other sectors. Maybe you could even make the radio relyays station modules for the modular stations.
something i would like implemented if we have this radio idea is distance.
e.g. you can only chat to a person in S1 if you were within a certain distance from it.
this brings into account things like radio relays / nets to join these far flung sectors.
think of it, they could add a nice aspect to the game... e.g.
itani nation is launching a large attack on the serco home sector which is being coordinated by a group of commanders in s1, everything is going to plan when suddeny, a small force of serco attack ships take out the Itani nation radio relay in s8 severing all contact between the itani front line forces and the command center =)
i guess this would either force the attacking team to protect these valuable structures, or the commanding unit would have to head a lot closer to the action. It would also cut off any traffic from the front line with the rest of the nation and prevent assisting forces from being contactable.
anyway, im babbling here, food for thought and all that.

that isnt a bad idea, after the govermental systems are set up (hopefully they will be, i couldnt stand a nation with out 1) a system to which asphyxia described can be implemented.
i like the idea of a government having to protect the communications tower along with the the people trying to attack and steal a flag. however if a noob asks for help from a veteran on how to warp then things will become harder to take care of. if a noob is stuck in s1 with no way to communicate to a vet who is actually on in s4. the noob will be stuck in s1 and he would be stuck permanetly in s1 if he dint know how to log off. so the communications idea isnt a bad idea but it has to have a limit.

the idea would by all means bring a whole new aspect to the game

about those who don't chat in teamchat: mostly newbs who need help and don't realize that they should talk in teamchat, or newbs in distress who need help asap and fail to hit shift...
I guess this is a pretty small suggestion, but enter/leave notices would be nice. It seems kind of annoying to be talking to someone and have them log off and you not notice at all.
I know you can check the active players list but it's annoying to have to alt-tab out and reload the web page, while in the mean time someone could've destroyed you. It'd just be nice.
Or possibly a GLOBAL active players list, not just in your sector.

Heh, talk about a spam generator. How about a buddy list instead?
Well, it takes 10 seconds to log off. And on average i've seen about 20-30 players at most. I don't think that much spam would be generated. Plus, you could probably turn it on and off as you like, so no problem.
I didn't think your initial gripe was that much of a problem either. Before the final release I would hope some kind of buddy list is integrated though. Just so you know where your guildmates/ingame friends are.
having an in game active player list is not a bad idea. heck i would settle for having an active team list with like where they are currently. some people wont use team chat so you never know. either way it would be nice to have it, having the web page open just to see the active player list is pointless cause it makes some people (such as myself) lag, and the lag will get bad enough to where you will lag out while in a war, duel, or a cap...

I say buddy list. Or if global then have it as default to off.
Yea because it would be cool if vendetta could spam me some more with text. Course, I also like getting hit. With bats.
Duh... is he being sarcastic? :P
Anyway, a buddy list would be ok *for now* but as the test evolves, will it detract from the atmosphere?

we can call it "telepathic presence senser" if you like.
or "long range sensor equipment"
or...
c'mon dave, be imaginative.

I'm against anything global list alert thingy. We used to have that back in the day. But it destroys any stealth a pirate might have to hear "Kastin Thunderclaw has entered sector 11," or what not. Any trader who sees that will run to the nearest wormhole, and Kastin doesn't get the kill. I'm all for local sector lists, but no alerts.
I think when channels are instituted, we can have alerts there. For instance:
#channel DSG
"Defense Ship 4" has logged on and joined channel DSG
<Defense Ship 4> Hi there, anyone on?
<Defense Ship 7> hey I'm on, DS9 is leaving
<Defense Ship 9> yup, bye
<Defense Ship 4> bye
<Defense Ship 7> cya
"Defense Ship 9" has left channel DSG and logged off

I vote for "buddy lists" or private channels as SirCamps describes.
I don't think it'll detract from the atmosphere at all. What they really are are secure hyperspace radio channels, duh. It might encourage more in-character playing, at least towards others not in your particular radio group.
When is that going to be implemented, devs?????!

LOL!! I like that last line.

I am, but that's beside the point. I thought I'd ask so that nobody else has to.
So does that mean I can't ask, or just that I shouldn't?
is this a1k0n or is it ak1()n or is it a1kOn..... :-\
yeah, devs, listen to the man, when is it going to be implemented? =P

It's the dev a1k0n. Hehehehehehe. He's right, though. Let's all ask the devs when it's gonna be implimetned!
