port upgrades
So I dunno if this has been formed yet..I was thinking using the large and small ports to use ship upgrades. Like a large part add on for an engine boost for a moth.so when your hauling you can use one port for the upgrade and the other whatever.just a small boost your no.like letting the moth reach 15 ms above top speed. Or the small port can be used for an add on for your hyper drive letting you jump a few 100 meters sooner. Or a slight thrust boost or turbo boost. I think you see were I'm getting at here. I'd think it'd be cool.
+1...
Very good idea for new equipments in game and gives new possibilities to every player το improvise their game playing tactics as anyone want.......

I'm inclined to agree with the suggestions, it's been raised before.
However there is not an easy way to implement this, especially when it can completely unbalance certain ships.

+1, but... ships have too few ports to be used with these "boosters". Only a very selected few ships in very few situations, it would be usefull.
What about some extra upgrade ports to all ships?

+1, good idea
I'm not sure I like the idea, but it could make ships like the Rag and Hornet a little more interesting to play with.
I like to haul..a lot..I build a lot also so I'm always haul in random comods...and in my moth I use mines for helping escape a pirat.which is not easy. If I could add a engine boost and a hyperdrive boost I'd happily drop my weapons for em. So yes it will change and imbalance but then again what's balanced about a hound hounding a moth..totally unfair.but that's VO right
A stealth drive..maybe it takes two big ports to use.u can be totally stealthed . There's a lot of possiabliltys here

Yeah, the biggest per load hauler should totally have a better chance against a dedicated pirate interceptor that has the strafing ability of a Govbus.

all ships should have one custom port into which you can put anything you want
an extra gun if your a pirate
an extra mining beam if your a miner
an extra engine or battery if you want to be slighty faster
an extra cargo hold if your a trucker
nothing that will break the game just a slight tweek
and you wouldnt know if that valk had 3 guns or 2 engines

No, Drevent1, that's just plain silly and relies on the devs accepting player-defined roles.
All ships of a given type should have the same addon port configuration. What really needs to happen, in order to avoid breaking things dramatically, is the creation of utility ports and the classification of addons as utility addons. Even this would still require that ships be re-tuned to some degree.

I don't think he meant to imply that only pirates could equip the extra gun and only miners could equip the extra beam. Those were just examples of what different sorts would be likely to equip, but anybody could equip "anything" (unsure if distinguishes between large/small?).
But you're right about it being silly.

I think every game out there has mods you can put on your character. I don't think it breaks the game or unbalances it. A moth may have a faster engine upgrade, but the pirate chasing him could have engine upgrade OR a weapon upgrade; thus, allowing him to take the moth down faster before he zips away. This is not an uncommon game feature amongst many many mmo's.
I do think, however, that the small and large port should not be used for these utilities, we need a utility port (i suggested this a LONG time ago). If we want to dive deeper, we could say that certain ships could only have certain utilities; therefore, creating a balance in the game.
For example, JUST AN EXAMPLE, a greyhound couldn't put on a speed boost. Valkyrie couldn't put a weapon in the port. JUST EXAMPLES.
With that being said, I do not think this is a priority, there are so many other things that need to be fixed now rather than Soon(tm).

So does this idea spark anything pizza? What kind of work does it take to create new things like a stealth drive or a boost to the engine?
You'd have to ask a dev, since I haven't worked with this game's engine. Could be easy, could be very hard. Apparently it is inordinately difficult for them to do something as simple as increasing the group limit past eight ships, so who knows.
