VO for PPC

Apr 30, 2013 Savet link
I can't be the only one with 6 of these laying around that I'd love to play VO on!

Can we have a PPC port that runs in an IBM 3151 terminal?

I want VO to run on my fork, fridge, toilet, alarm clock, and mind, please.

I'm sorry, but VO for the burgeoning VAX/OpenVMS market is currently taking priority.

A lot of people use forks. There could seriously be some money there.

A VAX VO! Great now I can play at work too....

Bah, forget forks. Go with chopsticks - parallel computing FTW!

(Actually, the fork is probably my favorite utensil. Though chopsticks are the best when it comes to popcorn. Assuming you're too civilized to just use your tongue, chopsticks provide an excellent alternative to getting your hands all nasty. I personally employ all three methods, depending on my mood.)

I dunno about the 3151 terminal, but I got this to build on my SPARC shellbox.

From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenVMS: "VAX-11/VMS, VAX/VMS or (informally) VMS, is a computer server operating system that runs on VAX, Alpha and Itanium-based families of computers."

HOW DARE YOU port VO to 'Itanium' based families of computers before you consider ports to 'Sercoium' based families of computers.

I will not stand for this kind of Itani bias from the developers.

The only reason VO's survived so long is because the developers are pro-Itani.

I just looked at the box Savet actually linked. That machine is slower than hell... Want a 7025-6F1?

No, no...please no forks. The code has been forked enough already. ;)

Keep in mind you can't exactly compare specs between ppc and x86. By modern standards, it is slow, but it's still a hell of a workhorse and would stream huge media files over the network through nfs shares to multiple clients with no noticeable performance impact.

Darn you Redspy! I have nothing but fond memories of my time as a VAX admin and you had to go provide that link showing just how far DEC sunk before the end (I had no idea they had actually worked to port VMS to Itanium!)
