Milky Way on background
Those big planets on background are very nice.
What about a Milky Way style galaxy on background, with the size of a big planet? With rotational movement!
*and consider removing or reducing the background colored fog.

As far as I'm aware, the game takes place in various areas within a single galaxy.
That means that if another galaxy is close enough to look planet-sized from one system, it will be close enough to look planet-sized in every system.
A better idea would be to just have some systems be so far above the galactic plane that you can see some of the Milky Way itself laid out below you.
And no rotational movement at all. For a galaxy to be visibly rotating, the stars in it would have to be moving at hundreds or thousands of times the speed of light! So no way, don't even go there.

Ok... If it HAS to appear in every system, then make it small in most of them.
And +1 to a system far above, to see VO's entire galaxy, very very big in the background.
About the visible rotational movement, I know it wouldn't be real... but, for sure it would looks nice.

If it's small in most of them, it would probably be small in all of them; the nearest spiral galaxy to us is about six-hundred thousand times farther away than the nearest star, and 25 times father away than the entire length of our galaxy.
Yeah, and it's visible to the naked eye from under earth's atmosphere. :)
If it was in one galaxy, wouldn't all the backgrounds be the same?
It's a game if it looks good do it.....reallity is irelevent
Thanks Drevent1 :)

Jamaica and Siberia are both on the same planet, but clearly have different scenery. Different regions of the galaxy will also have different scenery (different numbers of nearby stars, different nebulae, different spectra being emitted by the local sun, etc.).
Drevent1: "looks good" is subjective and context-dependent. If this were a game that took place in a dreamworld, visibly rotating galaxies would be awesome (as would planets undergoing binary division, flocks of toucans flying in formation while burping rainbows, and stars that pulse different colors to the beat of the game's soundtrack). This game does not take place in a dreamworld, and therefor things that are too blatantly unrealistic just look garish here.

+1 to toucans burping rainbows
