Modified mute

Apr 13, 2013 Growlor link
Since we seem to have a never-ending supply of those who think its funny to spout annoying comments on 100: I would like to see a modified form of mute implemented that will let me see the muted person is posting (so I know he is still online), but replace his verbal nonsense with [muted] (or something similar.)
As an extra, I would like to see the same thing implemented on the forums!

This doesn't really change anything besides create a new type of spam. Besides, if a person is muted they can't chat anyway. I think you're referring to ignore.

At first I thought this was a stupid post, then I saw this:

[lengthy chat log removed, see my post -P]

1+ to banning smurfs on 100

LOL. I'm surprised I wasn't muted. Oh well, that was a one off thing anyway. :P

/ignore is best in most situations
even leaving the channel, a lot of people do because they don't like what they see, or don't want to see it.

Eventually, with enough players, the channel will be spammed because of the sheer number of people on it. If you don't want to use 100, use another channel (preferably not 1), it's not difficult. We're gonna end up seeing a spreading out of channel use eventually (SoonTM).

"Oh well, that was a one off thing anyway."

That is such a lie.

Let's keep this on topic. It's not necessary to post chat logs in order to prove a point.

This could be implemented as a plugin, if you want it badly enough. Look at IgnoreIRC as a basis. You could also have it redirect the "Peytros hath spoken" message to the mission announcements area rather than the chat area. That way it doesn't push the chats you want to see off the viewable zone, and the notifications would simply fade away after a timeout.

One reason a feature like this could be helpful is for when people respond to the guy you're ignoring, so that you don't think they're just saying weird spontaneous stuff.
