There should be ships made especially for the defense of capitol ships, and they would appear in Deneb, War convoys, and trade convoys and where ever NPC capitol ships are present.
They would have six turrets(3 on each) and no docking bay and no shield. 2 Turrets would have firecrackers (To disrupt bombers) and a new type of missile that would detonate other self propelled projectiles.
Something like this would drastically improve Deneb, because it would increase the life of capitol ships and thus make for a more interesting battle. Also, it would give point to ships like the hornet which are incredibly bad at PvP and barely used by anybody, even NPCs. It would give the Hornet a niche as it's 4 weapon ports and fast engines would be ideal for taking out these ships and paving way for the bombers

Hornets already have a niche as quad rail platforms of for flare snipers.

Apart from that, I'm all for new ships.
