I would like to see the incorporation of blackholes in the game. Maybe they could move around (kind of like Ion Storms) and temporarily swallow asteroids, stations, and NPCs. If it eats people, make it throw them to random sectors universe-wide. Although someone suggested the ability to escape! Maybe base escape ability on a shops max speed. For example, a bus would never make it, but a ship with like 200 max turbo m/s would. Cause then it would also bring into play a ship's energy capacity. I.E. , you run our of turbo, your screwed.
Also maybe add different size black holes with different gravitational strengths. Like maybe one big one might be unescapeable up to 20000 meters, whilst a smaller one would lose its strength after like 1000 meters.
After that you could hide certain black holes that take you to secret areas! While still moving around in one sector, such as sectors with nothing in them, making the black hole wander within a whole sector (maybe like wandering within 50000 meters of a certain point within a blank sector. This will make it very hard to find.
This will also add things like:
Emergency boosters (for escaping them)
black hole finders
Advanced black hole finders
Black hole jump targeting systems (to make random jumping a little less random)
Null gravity fields (to make gravitational pull off black holes weaker for your ship)
...and things like that.
Please feel free to add to my ideas. The more the better.I want to make this a highly attractive concept for the devs.

"If it eats people"
Okay, I'm sold. +1.
But what is the difference between it eating somebody, and somebody using it to jump to the adjacent system like they do now?

Yep...thinks good as new one event in game ...and as option to escape/dodge and even to lost in galaxy (very good ....).....devs only knows what can do .....
i believe the difference is in the convenience of the matter. if your chasing CTC for example and get sucked in you lose your target and get poped out somwhere random. idk..
i support the idea. sry i dont have much constructive to say.

/me licks the wall
I see your dilemma with CTC. Although I have never taken part in that...yet, so I can't accurately come up with a solution as of today. Altough that might be helped with my non existent null grav field generators.
Also the reason its diffent to get thrown to random sectors is that you might not be liked by the nation or faction you get thrown to. Making someone WANT to avoid them. Unless it's an emergency.
And Im not saying put them everywhere. Just have a few that move around our appear and disappear or something.
:-)

.... or if it makes things easier. Make it kill u upon entry. Either way works.
Maybe only a couple can send you to secret areas...
...oo! Make them throw u into some kind of "null space" that you have to be rescued from (asking friends to help...or giving EMS something else to do) if u dont have an "advanced null space navigator" to escape with. (Of course if you had nothing valuable you could just /explode).
This could also support RedSpy's ideas on remote and corrosive locations...
...Also there could be Levi s that spawn out of them (every once in a blue moon)... that would be cool

Sorry, I must have been unclear. I will try again.
Say I'm flying about in Sedina, and then decide I want to go to Latos. Currently, I just fly over to Sedina B-8, fly up to the wormhole, let my powercell recharge, and press Activate.
How would I do this in your system? Would there be some safe region around the wormhole where you are close enough to hit Activate and undergo a controlled jump to the next system, but if you go closer you get sucked in and flung about at random?
Or are you proposing an entirely independent phenomenon, forgetting that we already have things called "wormholes" in this game?

What he describe is a random moving, stellar-mass, small size BLACK HOLE.
If such thing ever existed, would be so disruptive that would be charted by now. OR it is a magic-random-hole that sometimes throw players somewhere else.
We do have and use a lot of wormholes. Each jump is a small wormhole, while inter-systems have a declared huge wormhole, or an Einstein-Rosen Bridge.
I don't like the universe to behave randomically. Players, Bots and NPCs should do random things, but universe itself should be predictable. Or we ressurect that idea that an Ion Storm disrupt your flight path and you will exit anywhere but where you wanted to go, so no new stuff is required. Not fun...

if players are supposed to be eaten they all should be eaten by me! : ]
ooops... change all worm holes to Black holes... I meant to say black holes
wow...
...sorry Pizza. This might make a little more sense now.

They should be a navigational hazard and appear in random sectors but vary rarely, and they'd stay there for a long time.
And it would be damn annoying if I'm chilling in Dau and suddenly end up in the middle of Sol II.

Yes snake that's a very good point. It would be too bothersome for them to be too "jumpy", and they probably shouldn't happen too close to stations and wormholes.
... Also folks don't hesitate to slam the idea. Criticism is still "constructive".
i can't believe i said wormholes
/me slaps forehead

Honestly, I'd be happy if it just killed people and if navigation was harder in general.
Maybe this could go with Alloh's idea- Grey is unclaimed because of the black holes and supernova remnants or whatever?

I just want to say... I find myself flying around from point A to point B all the time with absolutely nothing else to do but chat or occasionally get shot down by pirates. Was thinking of some ways make trips a little more exciting/dangerous/enjoyable. Personally I have a big thing about high-physics style games and a part of my mindset when coming up with this idea was that I would be able to use them to set up some kind of orbit based boredom killing (this was like 2% of the reason this idea seemed appealing). I like using Disabled Flight-Model flight, and black holes would add a little uncertainty to your flight patterns.
...Just adding gravitationally affected mass to asteroids and planets and/or ships and such, would cure that...
but i don't know, it seemed like it would be a good way to tie in a lot of cool things that people have suggested or things already in the game, such as:
corrosive environments
secret systems
cool areas
(more) attentive game play
will add more as i think of 'em.
I really just wanted to see the (reminder) "incorporation of black holes in the game". It doesn't matter how they work. Just that they are there and affect things as black holes should (with some exceptions).
At the end of the day... what is space without black holes?
Ideas folks, ideas!

I agree - traveling needs to be more exciting.
couldn't you just play "Alphabet" with Galactic Trade Standard signs? Maybe "I Spy"?
Black holes are not portals: fall into one and your particles are smushed into it's light-eating mass.
Random unknown anomalies would be fun tho, especially if they transport us into alternate VO universes where all the pirates are care-bears and all the miners are griefers (and mr_spuck has a bitchin' goatee), or time-warp us so we can save Humpback whales or something...

If something accelerated you fast enough to travel back in time, you'd be dead.
And we already have something that creates alternate universes - hallucinogenics.

Yay hallucinogens!
Maybe some kind of tentacled monster that floats around and tries to get people to worship him...
...or a giant turtle...
...see the turtle of enormous girth... heh :-P

+1 to Hallucinogenics
Can we add some trade goods? Metana Magic Mushrooms? Latos Synthetic Diethylamide?
