Player trading
Knowing the dynamic environment will bring a vast amount of changes, lets assume this:
red buys x amount of goods at his base
blue buys x amount of goods at his base
Let us assume that the profits gained by selling these goods at opposite bases is substantial. Knowing that you can't dock at another team's base (home / main base) and not wanting to take the risk of docking to the base adjacent to such, leaves a path of opportunity. Sure, the parties could agreen to meet in a sector and then drop their cargo. But, what if there was a base (or all bases) that would allow trading between players?
Sure, this might cut down time on gaining profits. Lazy traders? Of course, player trading could be limited to a specific base/sector. Then again this would draw many pirates/bandits/etc. Even so, the idea itself opens a few doors.

I used to trade red for blue widgets, back when it was REALLY profitable, and Icarus always pirated me in sec4.
