A reason why Gray Space exists
Disclaimer: This topic cover many other ideas, posted by many people, and I'm too lazy now to reference all them. I remember Tarenty, PaK, Snake. TRS...
Reasoning:
-Why there is a gray space? Or why the nations didn't simply expanded their borders until meet the next nation, thus suppressing grayspace??
-Why newbies should NOT venture beyond their nation's borders?
-Where is the challenge of navigating blind, and exploring uncharted space?
PROPOSAL:
-1- Make every WH sector bordering a nation a FOGGY SECTOR, Radioactive, stormy... dangerous! scary!
---> include the sectors around the WH sector, so it requires two jumps to "be free" and reach grayspace.
---> Deneb is the exception, remains as is. Include Edras, Latos, Ukari and Helios systems' WH sectors connected to nation's space
-2- Make newbies START only with their nation's map in NavComp. They can either chart new areas travelling, purchase maps from stations or users, or unlock it by specific missions.
RP-wise:
-Serco nation grew until they found those "double-sector-storm-WH", then considered it a "Natural Frontier".
-When Itani left thru Deneb, they grew until they met another "Natural Frontier".
-When the independent left, they first reached grayspace, then found another "Natural Frontier" that led to what they considered a safer place, where the third nation was established.
-Later the remaining space was explored, and named grayspace, as it was gray in NavComps due being uncharted. And that unclaimed space was taken by daring people and companies, and remained a wild area without regulations...
-Today, all nations have all reachable space properly mapped, but they consider it safer to try to keep their rookies inside nation space, so nations won't provide the full map easily...
ALTERNATIVE for VO 2.0:
Instead of the WH sector and its surrounding sectors inside bordering systems, create a whole new "Reef System", as Inc said before, between existing Nations/Gray borders...

Alloh posting a good idea? WTF is this, opposite VO?
As usual, the more VO would be like EVN, the better VO would be. EVN has sucky, 2d combat...VO has sucky atmosphere, plot, richness of available addons, and development of backstory. You guys and Ambrosia SW should get together and bring EVN: the MMORPG to market.

This in particular is a great idea, imo. More sense of exploration and discovery.
+1 to the OP.

Alloh posts good idea.
I still can't understand it.
It would be nice if there were way way way more conquerable stations in greyspace to the extent that it became a big battle to control it for one faction or the other. The mechanics are there but the devs are sitting on it sadly :(

@TRS:
That is almost required for Deneb. There is war, and a meaningless war over empty space, as stations are fixed. I already proposed to make all Deneb stations conquerable, and large events for the battles over them! But that's another topic.
The above idea isn't "mine" entirely. It evolved clearly for me from the various previous posts last week... And seems a simple, consistent way to improve gameplay while improving backstory details...
Incarnate, if you can read this,.please implement it ASAP in the simplest possible way:
>ADD a fixed Ion Storm to gray side of nations' WHs, the whole 3x3 surrounding the WH sectors.
*IF WH sector cannot be stormy, use only the surrounding sectors, preferably two rows (5x5)

That wouldn't affect game play much
And also, doesn't Incarnate have shitton of stuff to do?

Only in a perfect world.

I went to EVN yesterday when VO went to the cloud... haven't felt the need to go back to VO yet.
Hands Lecter a funny looking pineapple looking deal. Pull the pin and release please.. and count to 10 prior to tossing it.
"First thou pulleth the Holy Pin. Then thou must count to three. Three shall be the number of the counting and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither shalt thou count two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the number of the counting, be reached, then lobbesth thine the Holy Hand Grenade in the direction of thine foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it."
shameless BUMP so Incarnate can read this?
