Corrosive atmosphere and remote locations

Mar 29, 2013 TheRedSpy link
I would love a system or a bunch of sectors that you could visit, without stations and full of rare ores or other opportunities for riches or combat, but where sections have corrosive atmosphere that slowly damages your ship and puts a burden on long term survival. That means there's no possibility for AFK mining, teamwork would be essential to surviving, repair modules and tridents would be useful and combat would be incredibly challenging.

It's probably been suggested before, but even so it's better than talking about stupid SCIN bots

What if we put all of the SCIN bots in one sector, full of rare ores, and they would periodically explode near the player causing a corrosion-like damage?

good idea, file it in the good-idea cemetery with the rest of 'em

Cool idea. A few related ideas that popped into my head:

- Regular sectors, maybe even most or all sectors, as you venture farther from the center, begin to fade to this corrosive fog. Patches here and there at first, getting denser as you move farther out. This would diminish the ability of infiniboost ships to turbo into the endless void to evade a chaser.

- Patches of corrosive fog in storm sectors, wormhole sectors, or other sectors, would leave the unaffected patches of these sectors as choke points for various sorts of encounters.

I've mentioned something like this a few times for Ion Storms. To protect yourself, you'd need to get closer to asteroids. These sorts of hazards are things that enhance gameplay for non-PvPers (and in some cases for PvPers also), so it should be fun if implemented.

+1 to corrosive sectors

But probably more rational / scientific to make them a sort of high energy particle fog (radioactive), thus able to annihilate the armour layers slowly. Before whole armour is gone the pilot dies of radiation poisoning and screen fades to black... These conditions are expected to be present in supernova remnants:

But also the most valuable and dense materials should be found in those Nebulas, including huge diamonds and dense elements... as samoflange in VO...

Now, going offtopic, every single sector bordering a nation should be radioactive like this. Would provide both a reason why nations won't expanded into grayspace, and another why newbies should remain inside their nations...

Hell yeah. Inc, if you add a new system, do a supernova remnant that's loaded with ores and goodies.

Certain ships should have armor that can "handle" it better or be outright immune to the damage. Perhaps some capships and the Raptor?

I agree with Arf - I mean, the Raptor IS an all weather fighter.

Or stations can sell equipment (LPort maybe) which nullifies part of the corrosive effect.

I like it
Good idea

Like corrosive nebula or radiation cloud or something ?
Or just the whole sector ?
