Customizable paint jobs/names!
It's pretty self explanatory. So far, you can only choose the color of a section of your ship. You can't have any designs on it, which sucks.
Also, I think you should be able to name your ship - so for example, your HUD would shows the player given name of the ship and it's version.
Besides, who doesn't want to paint a cowhide pattern and horns on your behemoth or trident and name it Bessie?

Suggested before. Both of them.
Incarnate has expressed his interest in having this done. So it'll be coming Soon(tm)

This would be the BEST microtransaction ever... sell them using the same existing resources, including Google Play. Manual work, so make its price reflect the required effort.
One steep deeper, offer a few sketches of new ships, and sell its development priority to community. If properly done can ensure the payroll of a new hired artist...
Problem of bandwidth of so many custom textures (stamps) can be easily overhidden keeping the textures very small and downloading on-the-fly, as required.
For Storage, simply limit the size of local cache of custom textures.
If more ship textures are required than the gaming devices resourses can store/display, simply use the default texture in that device. (Best case: PCs show many ships with custom textures, Small Phones on 3G show all ships with default textures.)
