I believe that idea for a movable station came up about 2 yrs ago, as a rat capital iirc
thanks, knew we talked about it before
As I remember, that post evolved into make the Rat's Nest use an ARK-type huge capship, size comparable to larger stations, it drifts slowly but can jump away... maybe even to another system.
Other than it moves and visually resembles a capship, for all other aspects it works a station... a special station for hosting 'unusual' content as black market and gray missions. Access is related to Corvus and nations' KoS.
If such thing gets implemented I expect that freight and insurance price to raise a low, as we'll need much more convoys to deliver anything... increasing defenses as the previous get destroyed.

Just making it dockable is brilliant and a good first step.
Though I also agree that it would be an interesting experiment to have a station that only sells what it has sold to it. I think experiment would be the key thing to remember though. If there were some sort of sliding scale of prices, it could become highly interactive. If I sold a couple of Taur loads of sunflares, I might make a handsome profit, but after showing up with a couple XC-loads, the profit reduces. On the other hand, the cost of purchasing sunflares goes down as supply goes up; or goes up as supply goes down.
It would be a large undertaking to create a local economy in a single station that did this, but given the recent turnout for the kickstarter, I bet there's a few players willing to pitch in the time to create the tables needed for this. They can submit to the Devs for review, try it out on the test server, then implement it.
Start with just weapons. It'll fast become a popular hangout and a quick spot to rearm and repair. The station would be good for pirates, good for pvpers, and good for traders. And if the model works, then it could be rolled out to other stations and the economy could be improved in stages.
But at least make it dockable with minimum amenities. EC-89, free battery, reps, rearm. And storage. These and the race tubes alone will make the place a hang-out. The other race tubes would start to see business almost immediately. I keep forgetting that we even have race tubes...

So we're all in agreement. Make it dockable, figure out the rest later. Can we get an official response re: feasibility and timeframe?
Umm. We're.. very busy right now. A new station is possible. A new station that only sells what is sold to it would require a non-trivial amount of new development and is not super probable in the next couple of months.
We can park a capship somewhere, permanently, pretty easily? But it would just be a capship. No selling of stuff.
There are a lot of different points on here. I'm not sure which is the actual suggestion.
Also, the roving black-market-station thing is something I've been aiming for, for some years (I haven't posted a lot about it lately, but it is in some of the older threads).

The base suggestion is just to activate docking. Let it sell a free ship and free powercell....perhaps mirroring the CS in what it sells.
There has been discussion of the final direction, but the base suggestion is just to activate docking, which everyone is in agreement on. Surely this is a less non-trivial amount of work? I know you guys are busy, but this would give players something new to play with and a place to hang out and race.

Activating Sedina H-5, that is. ^^ For clarity.
Umm. It's not as trivial as I would like. We can't make anything for sale without adding the station to the economy (which has other dynamics going on that aren't player-visible). It isn't brain surgery either, it just isn't as "streamlined" a process as we'd like, or as we'll have to make it prior to player-owned stations and such. There's a series of steps involved, and some of them may have other impacts, because some of the same data is shared to do other.. stuff.
Not trying to be vague, we just haven't done it since the capship station, I think?
We can take a look.

We appreciate you looking into it. Additionally, even if no items are for sale, simply making it dockable would be a huge step forward.
