Lasers; take a cue from MWO

Lasers could probably be done in VO:

They're fixed and just fire forward, rather than tracking like a mining beam would. They take up a hell of a lot of battery per burst and need to be kept on the target to be at all effective.

The small port variant is more energy efficient, but doesn't do a lot of DPS with a pretty short burst time, so the user needs to be damned accurate.

The large port variant does a lot of DPS with a decent length burst time, but consumes power like you wouldn't believe.

Both weapons are pretty heavy.

(here, a burst is defined as the length of time the beam exists; a two second burst, for example, would have the weapon put out a beam continuously for two seconds and then stop.

No they can't be done in VO, instantaneous projectile travel time is completely broken. They would either be completely useless or they would be way way better than any other weapon.

If you go into the training sector and you get attacked by beam cannons, you'll see what I mean. Sure, there would be a skill element in landing a hit, but with instant travel time it would be REALLY easy.

I am not at all convinced it can work.

they wouldnt be completely broken if they had a long fire/charge delay (like charge cannons) and an inaccuracy factor like gats (and the old beam cannons) do.

Six years later and your laser-lance idea is still fracking stupid, Doc. Lightsabers on the nose of my Cent, indeed.

Oh and insta-travel "lasers" would make fighting waaaaaay too easy.

Thunderhead Lance, LeberMeat.

Your argument is invalid.

Vendetta Online might be oft-described as Escape Velocity if Escape Velocity were a Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game, doc, but but as much as I love Escape Velocity, Vendetta Online is still not Escape Velocity.

And besides, Escape Velocity: Override was much better than Escape Velocity: Nova, and there were no Thunderhead Lances in that installment. Phased Beams, maybe, but I don't see any Zidagar around these parts (although, I confess, it can sometimes be hard to tell with all the melodrama).
