Major Miner
I've been playing VO for a few weeks focusing on mining/trading. Please forgive me if the things I mention already exist in the game and I just haven't found them yet. My suggestions are a few pieces of equipment that would make mining even better.
Heat Extractors
==========
Asteroids heat up when mined, it would be good if there was an add on that could help reduce that heat build up. I would imagine that at the high end, a heat extractor would allow a single mining laser to mine quicker than two lasers for the same cargo amount on a single asteroid.
Long Range Scanners
==============
Would allow the scanning for the presence of minerals in a sector square or group of squares depending on the level of the scanner. Its use should completely drain the power of your ship. And it would only report the presence, not the exact location of ore. This could be refined even further maybe by having long range scanners tuned to specific ores.
Mining Tuned Power Cores
=================
A power core that make mining lasers run better (less heat, more extraction) but rubbish for turbo etc. would be awesome. The idea being that a ship with this equipped is slow as a snail but can extract like mad.
Scanning Computer
=============
The idea here is that you take a small fast ship equipped with a mineral scanner and a scanning computer. Every asteroid you scan is recorded in the computer. Then if you transfer that same computer add-on to a new ship, whenever you target an asteroid, the results of the mineral scan at the time it was scanned is displayed on the HUD.
Cargo Transfer Cable

The idea here is that one ship does the mining but the ore extracted is transferred to a nearby ship that has been targeted with the transfer cable. This idea could be extended to allow ship-to-ship cargo transfers without jettisoning them into space first.
So there you go. Loving the game and thought I would contribute my two credits worth of ideas.

High-Efficiency Mining Beams (low rate of extraction but also really low heat rate) can be used in conjunction with other mining beams to bring down the average heat of your beams, thus reducing the total heat.

LMAO: That is not at all like what is described. Louth wants a scanner that can scan for the presence of ores in entire sectors at a time, not anything like what we have now.
That being said, +1 to Long Range Scanners and Scanning Computers. The scanning computers would be worth a fortune to miners, encouraging player trade, and it removes the necessity of having a plugin to store ore locations. The long range scanners seem like a good way to narrow down a search for rare minerals.

Cargo transfer cables would serve no purpose, as ore can be jettisoned as it is mined, and a second, larger ship can pick that ore up with ease. I would like to see powercells with specific bonuses for certain activities (I'd like to see more powercell variety, period), but it would likely be more complicated to implement.

would love it if we (miners) had something like that without a plugin, as a Microsoft surface cant store the ore db from targetless to well, after a couple of sectors scanned it locks up the game and then you have to get into the file system to delete them before you can play again
Minen, you might want to let drazed know about that. It'll never get fixed if it never gets reported.

We've had the cooling beam suggestions before (as well as heating beam suggestions), and as already mentioned the scanner functionalities already exist.
The Cargo Transfer Cable seems like a solution in search of a problem: just park your XC next to the mining Rag and scoop as the miner jettisons.
However, I do like the mining beam specific power cell. The miners mine faster, and run slower...perfect for me :)

and yes Rin I do know you are Pizzasgood & Abortretryfail is Arf_01/Arf_02 I think I may have been starting to faceplant as I was doing that sorry lol
