-You don't know what makes your game good
-You don't understand the game that exists now
-You manage to make the game seem really boring
-The battles you show are boring
-the odd 1 or 2 pvp shots you show are boring fights
-you pick the most boring track from the game every time
-flying by asteroids for 5 minutes is boring
-People will think the whole game is raptors (which suck) and connies
-Essentially you showcase that the game is vast and empty...and boring and not the same game that I and others have been playing for the last decade
This rage induced post was caused by a new game footage trailer that popped up in steam or ks or somewhere today that was the same as all of the others

I personally agree that Inc doesn't shoot the best parts of vo, but some of these are hard to find and depend on the person watching. But certainly a furball or two would be extremely welcome on a video (NW maybe?), and maybe even in a group who has vc on to capture even better moments.
Video editing is incredibly time consuming, as I'm sure you are aware. On top of this, the devs have the added pressure of showing the game off graphically; they can't go through all user-submitted footage up to this point because much of that footage is old and from machines that are not running under full graphical settings. Even though we the user-base know that those incredibly fun moments exist, it's not a matter of waving a magic wand and making it happen.
This, for example, could not have been choreographed; zooming in on my objective I see a target of opportunity ([BLF] Priest King), turn and waste the vulture. As I see TRS coming about I line up a brief strafing run, duck under his hull and try to come up through the gap between his right nacelle, barely clipping it. Then the SCP is right on my six and I take a flare hit before deciding to clear out, switching to mouselook to view the action as I get set up for my next run.
The problem is that the video probably isn't up to the devs' quality requirements, and it uses a dubstep soundtrack that I had to switch to after the original (Daft Punk: derezzed) was blocked. Furthermore, there are several plugins that I am using which gives the impression that that is the vanilla look of VO's interface, which is not true.
If the OP is about the 'short trailer' that just came out looking familiar, that is because it is copied from the original Kickstarter video. I'm pretty sure Inc or someone mentioned this in the video description somewhere. The Raptor is probably used because it has the "newer" look that the devs are going for, and suggests what kind of designs to look forward to in VO.
All in all I think Incarnate has been doing a stellar job of managing the Kickstarter campaign with the resources available to him, and quite honestly I'm just glad to have some videos that I can link to that are not community-made (although those are important, too) because it tends to carry a lot more clout with people who are not familiar with the game.
edit: Here is another video that shows some fun (a word that is largely subjective) gameplay during a bus war, but is probably not up to the devs' quality requirements. There is a bit of lag in the beginning that causes a bus to go flying off in an upward-right direction. Also note that these videos show only the older explosion graphics. I'm sure the devs wanted to showcase some of the more recent graphical changes that have taken place for people who are coming back after having been gone for a while. The bottom line for me is I'm glad Inc has chosen to take the time to make the videos he has.

Some options:
Really old and first attempt at a VO movie (when did this get 16,000 views??? It's the crappier of the two dammit!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=op3G5-Fb1Co
Less old, less sucky and a little more cinematic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o05w4wCojzE

Ghost: I really, really like that second video you linked to, but the version you uploaded has some aliasing problems or something midway through.
Gaah. Yeah it's a youtube thing. I'll put it on Vimeo later tonight.
If I had access to the devs magix game database, i'd rig up a notification or reporting system for when players congregate in a sector and die a lot, then go there with out showing on their radar and record battles in seecret!
the second ghost video is my favourite VO video of all time
That was awesome!
The #1 thing we get hammered on is graphical quality. The videos I shoot are done a very limited timetable without access to any big events or player gatherings, trying to show off some of our better-looking graphics.
I've also noticed that VO players seem to have trouble sometimes differentiating between video that appeals to other VO players, vs video that appeals to people who have never seen or heard of the game.
So, for instance, if the battle being shown is "super cool" and yet the background assets are lower poly or simpler, people go "that game is awful looking". They don't say "wow, that game is super cool". I know this because I get beaten over the head with those comments everywhere I go, and everything I do.
Espionage made a pretty decent video, which I link to from the Kickstarter.
If I had more of me to go around, I would spend more time shooting PvP footage and integrating that. But I don't.

Inc... you spelled "great and very explanatory" wrong. To hell with linking, put his video on the KS.
what about schedule a few events soon, repeated events, battles, NW, Megavoy, etc, and record it from multiple perspective, like from all players, or devs in ships, recording, so later you can replay it with all quality desired... record it and good "insert" material.
Also, if requested, I bet that many players can produce interesting raw footage, and upload wherever you prefer.

I saw that video a couple years ago. Still awesome.
As for videos that have plugins like Targetless and what-not, there is a very simple solution: state outright that what you're seeing is an example of one of the many plugins that VO's exuberant community has created to enhance their experience. That way you showcase your positive attitude toward the modding community.

^+1
Well as stated I have hours of raw pvp footage which is why I produced the video with some of the existing footage I have.
To be honest I could produce many more vids without even having to record more footage.
I don't think the editing takes long but in vo opportunities to come across quality pvp action are sporadic I had to run glc in the background at all times and I recorded about half a tb of raw footage at one point before I built some of the vids.
Incarnates vids aren't even that bad the only problem is the horrible 4:3 HUD ratio setting he has on it REALLY bugs me.
Also I love phaserlights trident battle vid, I had my own one where people were using an NPC trident that I wanted to show but it had spidey swearing repeatedly in bright green sector chat so I didn't want to use it in a kickstarter vid. Lol.

That's the way the game actually is by default. I'm just being representative.

I don't really have a problem with footage containing plugins. For that very reason. Like.. Espionage's, for instance.

Heh.. was I the only one that noticed [RED] has a [TRI] member in a "paid" status in Espionage's video?
Yarr, bitches.
(good vid, btw)

Pretty sure he also said somewhere else that RED doesn't keep KOS lists.
Also yay, a video appearance where I didn't immediately go boom!

@Samwise:
Dated video clips, in my Vendettas? Say it ain't so.

That was FAMY's KOS list. We don't have our own.

Incarnate that's silly, it's not like there isn't an option to properly fit the hud to a 16:9 screen, when you represent it like that it looks like there isn't an option to fit it properly. You should show the game like it is actually played not how it comes by default.
