Nebulas, good idea or bad?

Jan 27, 2013 dm3.14 link
My idea is that potentially in the new VO 2.0 universe they could add some areas that are the same size, scale, and general purpose as a solar system, but filled with sectors containing ion-storm like nebula clouds, making them difficult to navigate, and probably prime spots for pirates.

Potentially in these you could also have some asteroid belts/clusters, allowing for much more high-risk high-return mining, but also increasing the chance of miners getting pirated, something that I personally seem to be missing out on.

please give your thoughts or additional suggestions.

also, as an unrelated side-note/survey, I find myself with much more money than I know what to do with, what do most people spend money on, and is it common to have a solid block of 150k+ moneys while still using a revenant?

I'd go even further and make some nebula contain pockets explosive gasses.

Incredibly uncommon, in terms of VO... you are actually quite poor. Find me in game and I'll loan you a few million till you get back on your feet. Poor guy, the economy is so terrible for those of us just starting out in the verse.

Go visit Pelatus C-12, Verasi I-5, Dau K-10, Latos M-7, and some of the asteroid sectors in Deneb.

As for money, if you like to hire players to do things for you because you're a lazy bum like me, you can quickly find yourself spending tens of millions over the weekend.

Also the reallly good ships like corvult and greyhound cost a ton to buy and repair.

The explosive gas idea sounds pretty cool, but might just be annoying if it pops up near valuable 'roids and can be blown up with a mining beam.

also thanks for letting me know that soon enough i will have a way to spend my moneys.
I just thought that seeing as I had 75 times as much money as the most expensive thing I am able to purchase, that somehow I was missing out a way that people burn through credits. I literally have only played about 12 hours and have spent most of that time searching through asteroid belts for rare minerals

if you attempt doing pvp in a corvult at b8 and subsequently die a lot you will loose a lot of money. Or if you buy a lot of expensive stuff like sedina chocolates or weapons, load em into an xc, head into grey, get blown up, and don't recover it then not only do you loose out on the 150k from the xc but u loose out on the 1m+ cargo. Those are some of the many ways to loose credits quickly in vo. Yet another way is to simply type /sgm "Crusader8389" 100000m

I believe I know what you are talking about with Verasi I-5 and Dau K-10, the areas where mining has led to clouds. This is the general base idea of what I'm thinking of, but entire system-sized areas filled with sectors like that, and have them interrupt ship movement or be more likely to have ion storms

I will probably end up paying people to protect me from drones while mining.

Keep Posting :)

Edit: naturally I do not mean every sector is like that, just have a number of belts of clouds to make navigating the nebular zones a real skill a requirement of experience to avoid the pirate-filled areas or excessive travel time

I like the idea but also add back unrats and plop em in there and make some ores in there that actually have value and are worth mining, unlike even the best (I think) ore heliocene. Also ofc have radar extenders work their magic as usual. And maybe even hidden wormholes or something cool like that!
Jan 27, 2013 dm3.14 link
I personally think heliocene is fairly awesome to find, as well as a number of other rare ores, like pentric, even xith is pretty good

I like your ideas but have but one question,
ummmmmmmmmm..... what are unrats, forgive me if this is something that I should know
Jan 27, 2013 ryan reign link
Unrats are/were NPC pirates that were awesome and made Gray Space fun.

tarenty is also a bot with dated AI, but we're still waiting for him to be removed from the game.

tarenty 2.0 will be coming to your home soon though, watch out

Tachyon: The Fringe ...coolest nebulas ever. Steal those, plz

Hurhur. I deleted that post once I saw it echoed ryan's.

+1 Nebula systems, they sound neat.

+1 to more nebulas. We already have the clouded ice fields in Deneb and a few foggy sectors elsewhere.

Oh yeah, and fix radar extenders so they're actually useful in fog and storms...

Hi, thanks for posting up here so much guys, and do keep posting more about suggestions.

There is only one problem I can see with unrats, and that is with the fact that it almost goes in the opposite direction that the devs are taking vendetta. It seems that the game is heading towards having players take over for more and more of the actions that many games would have AI do(mining, trading, managing stations, piloting capships, etc.) and AI pirates reverse that progress, but I could easily see them acting as at least a temporary "filler" for the 2.0 universe until players spread out more.

As a new side question for my own knowledge and those in the same situation as me, I have not seen many other players. Is it because I spend most of my time in middle-of-nowhere UIT space prospecting and mining cheap minerals, or is it generally common to not see many other players?

Edit: a yes or no poll, how many people would like to see more industrial and metallic looking ships, rather than the current ships that for the most part (no offense intended) look like a monochromatic plastic model molded in a single piece? (please no discussions, just yes or no)

Also, while I appreciate answers to the side questions, do make sure that your posts at least have some comment on the nebula topic so that this can remain helpful to the devs

nebula clouds, in freelancer (showing my age) there were some clouds that were radioactive and would hurt you ship if in them too long, also some that had explosive matter that would do the same.
some ships should look like they were pieced together alittle, like a miner ship it should look dirty, beat up dings and dents from the roids. same as fighters should not look like they are dent, scratch free.

I mine in grey most of the time (maybe lol) so not seeing other players depends on time of day and you have to remember not all of us talk on 100(just West, nightstrike & Esp)

Add to this the possibility of electrical discharge (against which you'd protect yourself by staying close to an asteroid to provide a "ground" (read shelter), and these nebulae and ion storms would actually be kind of fun!

Physics Fun Note: In a "real" ion storm, being close to an asteroid would actually be quite dangerous, as it's been sitting in the storm for a lot longer than you have been and getting close to one would have you represent a much lower potential electron sink than the asteroid would be. (read massive lightening bolt between the 2 of you) I switched it because I think it'd be fun to have to sit out a storm at times (possibly calling for ship repair) in order to make it out.
