Update Forums

I'm sure others have sujested the same thing.

I suggest you upgrade to a modern forum. One with email and notifications.

greenwall started a thread about a 3 hour event when free play was active. I would have come in game. And I sure others would have too. Maybe one solution to player count is just better communication. I think the more we can talk with each other out side of the game might bring in more people. And I know that irc is keyed into the game but thats an active communication. I would need to login and watch, to get any any info. I want a passive solution (email and/or text). And of course the player can specify the frequency of updates

I know Guild is working on making the game better and this seems minor. I'm sure you could find an experienced volunteer in web design to help out.

what I mentioned was a spontaneous event... so IRC would have been the only way to know about it. Perhaps alternatively the devs could make a death chart that shows the rate of player deaths over time -- conceivably this would increase any time there was a large event. And if you monitored it like the Acitve Players graph, you could log in when it was peaking to try and participate.

email and text could have still worked. If an email was sent when the player population was X. Then people would know to get in game, The active player graph doesn't really help It tells when the most players are active yes. But it doesn't tell me how many players are online. It could be 20 or 100.

ANd Greenwal I want passive notifications like email. I don't want to have to monitor anything.

They got a new forum a couple years back... but +1 to email notices for event submissions.

The actual mailing list was originally supposed to be for newsletters and events. But, then I worried about spamming people too much, and it became "mostly newsletters that will occasionally mention events".. and then honestly not near enough newsletters at all.

Anyway, we should really break out the construct into two separate lists and checkboxes in the admin side. One for newsletters, and one for events. Event messages could get sent out at the time of approval, and then again like an hour before the event starts or something.

None of that really has anything to do with the forums, but it would be helpful for notifying people of what's going on in-game.

Anyway, feel free to continue discussion..
