New trinket - beacon
I saw talk of mapping asteroids with xyz coordinates - sounded very useful, but then the feature was aparently disabled a year or so ago. That is for good reason - I can not stress enough how much damage can be done to a game with client-side automation.
What I am proposing is the ability to plant beacon on a roid, so that you could home in once you are in the sector. There should be a limited number of beacons - one or two, not many - available for free. Maybe more beacons could be obtained as rare drops from bots. Not sure if they should be tradeable.
Toughts? Suggestions?

Meanwhile, there is a plugin called TargetLess that can let you save the mineral content of asteroids and target them from a menu. Among other things.

I would tie beacons to groups so that it is something the group leader can designate the location of. And don't limit it to placing only on roids -- it should be allowed to be placed anywhere, allowing for the designation of staging areas, coordinating attacks, etc. I don't see a need for having more than one active at any given time, so the simplest implementation would be to have a new beacon replace the old one when created.
For cases where a solo player wants to mark a roid to return to later, they could simply create their own group of one to designate the beacon.
Other features I would add would be to include an icon at the sector where the beacon is placed on the system/sector map and possibly even a console command to set a navroute to that sector.
It might be nice to even be able to designate other ships for the beacon and have the beacon track with that ship's position, but only if one of the group members is within radar range of the ship or if the designated ship is a member of the group. I suppose the beacon could default to a last known position of the ship when it isn't within radar range of any group member.

Nobody's ever suggested that before. Oh, wait...
