May I/we please have a way to shut off VO's annoying habit of rearranging the controls.

Just a simple variable we could set to NO so that us older and experianced players can use setups that dont follow the normal conventions. AUTO-RECONFIGURE = NO perhaps?

I realise the feature is there to help protect the newbs from their own .... ummm ... nature but...

At the moment the only means I have to protect my setup is to lock the ini file but this keeps any new information from being written to it.

If I leave it unlocked VO overrules my setup and changes the settings For the shoot controls.
2 sticks and a few alias and an odd perrsonal habit leaves shoot 2 unassigned for me - I tried assigning it to an unused button but VO demands shoot2 be assign to JOY0BUTTON0 which is in my way.

This is proving to be a serious problem at times as I cant uprotect the file and let the plug ins write to it without getting my setup changed. - VO is also changing the setup even with the lock every once in a great while.

+1 Required... so I don't have to keep a copy of config files, and copy it back every time VO erases my bindings, as I redefine most keys and joystick...

Despite it seems more a BUG than a planned feature!

Even better idea:
-> Move Key bindings to another file, so other config changes won't affect it.

+1 to both OP and Alloh. Being able to specifically back up all controls with one or two files without that including config stuff would be awesome. It would make it a lot easier to synchronize controls between different machines.

VO shouldn't be rearranging controls. Does the problem happen with keyboard binds if no joystick is plugged in? What's a simple reproducible case I can use to verify the bug?

Its a feature that was added back when you did the phone porting... I had the impression it was deliberately added roughly 1.8.200 or so

Any joystick setup that does not bind shoot2 should create the problem.
It definately will trigger if shoot2 is not bound when a joystick is used, (it wants joy0button0 btw)
The "feature" is activated when the setup is reloaded.
It usually reacts by throwing out the entire setup and sticking what it thinks should be correct. It then appears to try and rewrite the ini file and then reload it.

I havent tried it in a non - joystick configuration (I gotta have my stick !)

I may have fixed the problem with joystick controls being reset all the time in the next update. After the release, please test it and let me know. The update should be out later today.

After several sessions (I wanted to be sure) It appears this issue is fixed.

save a copy of your wgaf.cfg as backup.cfg. If the controls ever change on you, just open the chat in game and type /load backup.cfg

boom. done. that was simple.

Simple, but annoying. The game should have just worked right to begin with. Which it supposedly does now, so yay, go devs!
