Group missions by "departments"
Organize missions interface with sub-menus instead of main drop-down. (Kierky's thread)
I was not thinking on a Trade Guild copy, but something closer to treemissionlist plugin used to do, but with more immersive titles for "departments".
Then complete overhaul with replacing categories menu with a "Location" drop-down:
Location: { *local, system, nation, any }
* Logistics Office (trade, haul, escort, purchase, deliver...)
* Defense Agency (Hive, espionage, seek-n-rescue,assassination...)
* industrial Dept (Mine, manufacture, research...)
* Fleet Command (Deneb, CtC, Borders, etc)
* Other categories...
Not moving back, but improving the new interface... faster load, since you start only with main "departaments", and first load mission list for whatever section (Category) player opens...
and when you open a new section, a simple "loading..." in text is quite enough and meaningfull.

I think this plays into my prior suggestion about improving the interactive feel of the game nicely.

Again, we'd have to go all over the universe and dock at stations and take the mission to see what the hell is available.
Also, it just gives 1 more thing to load and will increase the already huge loading time for the mission list.

idd you seem to be talking about a different suggestion. No one mentioned removing the feature to see non-local missions. Missions are already categorized, this suggestion would merely change the way missions are displayed in the UI, it would not impact load times (which have by the way improved quite a bit with the last few updates).

The update improved it only a little since my tablet still has a huge loading time. And if you put the department thing in, we have to dock at a station and take the mission to see what's available. And Incarnate said that the devs are trying to get AWAY from the "take one mission for all of them" style.
That "Trade Guild" catch-all mission is already annoying as hell.

+1... a good idea, but I agree with ARF as well. Perhaps a change to the interface would be helpful here, i.e. holding the cursor over over "Logistics Office" would then show a pop out menu displaying all the missions therein.
Having to click in and out of stuff is annoying if you are just browsing for what's available.

idd, arf: He's not talking about the trade-guild deal with sub-missions. He's just suggesting a fancier version of what PaK and I proposed in that other thread - collapsible mission categories. So you should still be able to open them up and find out where they are and everything, without docking. You'd just have to do some clicking to get the right stuff expanded (whereas currently, you have to do some scrolling to bring the right stuff into view).
As for additional loading time, no. It would either improve the loading time, or have no impact, since this is just an organizational change. (Technically it would not improve the overall time to load every mission, but it could potentially allow the client to prioritize the order that it loads missions - load missions for any open categories first, then load unopened categories in the background. That would cause people to perceive it to be faster.)

I'm still baffled as to why there has been mission-list lag in the first place. For starters, isn't it just a bunch of text? Is the bandwidth coming from the VO servers that small? And second, it should load up before starting the game... like most games do. Bleh.
Yeah ok a tree view would be cool as long as it isn't implemented using the existing mission mechanics. That trade guild one is annoying.
If they do make it like Greenwall/Bluewall said, then +1
Otherwise, it's completely useless.

people, LEARN TO READ. it is in OP: NOT a new Trade-Guild type. Trade Guild, as is, is nonsense!
As Pizza says, this is not an Alloh's idea, but evolved from previous existing ones, I just organized it.
It is NOT moving back to old style, nowhere says you have to dock to see mission list... neither sub-missions.
And it does improve your perception of mission loading time, since it can prioritize the traffic. Once you click on a category, it collapse others, so uncluttering the list. And on first usage it only loads the category you selected, so at most 20% of total... AND can have a "Loading...+" indicator also.
