New weapon feedback: Gatling Cannon HV
I've gone through quite a few of these things and scored a few kills with it, so I figured it'd be worthwhile to post a feedback thread about the weapon.
In a word: Better
What's good about it:
- It's a lot more effective than the original Gatling Cannon, especially if you don't treat it like it's a Gatling Turret and instead use it more like a Flechette Cannon.
- Higher velocity makes hitting players and more advanced NPCs a possibility.
- 800kg isn't *too* heavy for lighter ships like the Warthog and Atlas to use and still be somewhat nimble.
- Orange shots look purdy from a distance.
What's bad about it:
- Spray inaccuracy makes it difficult to land consistent hits on a target. This makes it's already low DPS effectively lower since it tends to miss even if you have a dead-on aim. Surprisingly, I've had better luck with it at a distance than up close because of this and the lack of autoaim.
- 8 grid power, though it doesn't matter on anything other than a Ragnarok, which this weapon is fairly useless on.
Suggested improvements:
- Reduce energy usage to 9 per shot.
- Reduce inaccuracy value to match that of the Hive Queen Gatling Cannon. It still scatters, just not as much.

The spread might be narrower or it might not. I'm curious what the exact difference is in the spread between the flechettes and HVGC. But yes, you use it like you would a flechette, not an AGT(turret). If I had to change anything I'd push the velocity up to 210m/s and maybe tweak the dps. I wouldn't say to change the spread yet without knowing if it is at all different than the flechette cannon. Mostly because I'm fairly certain most people use it wrong and are psychologically challenged.
Either:
Remove the spray inaccuracy
OR
halve the weight to 400

It's fairly good as it is, as a long range solution to the gat turret. On one of the smaller ships with large ports, you can fight a heavy fairly well. However, it is uselsss at close range.
A perfectly legitimate solution to the Gatling turret would be to have operational ranges for the auto targeting. Make it a feature of the weapon, so some of them have 150m auto targeting, some 200 etc... balance it out so that there's actually a technological limit to the auto targeting that comes as a feature of the weapon

Except, of course, for the low damage. It's effective at taking forever to kill a heavy ship.
The spread might be narrower or it might not.
Flechettes have an inaccuracy of "0.07"
Gatlings have "0.05"
Hive Queen Gatling has "0.025"
Mostly because I'm fairly certain most people use it wrong and are psychologically challenged.
That too. :)
It's actually not a bad weapon now, but it's not going to see widespread use in it's current state because there's better weapons that are more available.

I'm not really worried about it seeing wide spread use, my motives were to make the GC possible to use and now it is, speaking personally of course.
I don't see any point in *improving* the gatling turret, it is fine where its at and it use to be quite a lot lighter heh.
So the flechettes have a greater inaccuracy or am I misunderstanding that?

Right, they scatter more.
I suppose the refire rate and velocity should be considered then. The velocity is matched now so I'm curious about the refire rates of both equipment. A wide spread isn't so bad if there is little space between shots (like the flechette).
Flechette MkII Delay: .88 s
HVGC Delay: .75 s
By the way, the dps fro the hvgc is the same as the gatling turret. I'm actually considering that there is truth behind one of my previous half joke statements, that people are somehow under some kind of hysteria that the hvgc is statistically inferior. Because clearly it isn't. And before anyone of those few that jump in and say "its not all about statistics" let me laugh at you preemptively while reminiscing about your many previous arguments based on your rigid estimation of what an "efficient weapon" is.

If I might suggest....make it clearly superior to current offerings. New weapons (and ships) should be notable improvements, and once they see widespread use, scale them back if they are *too* powerful.
Hey this guy gets it! ^
