Have shields be disabled/degraded in areas
Maybe they don't function or are reduced or continue to be reduced the longer you stay in an ion storm?

Deshielding queens in ion storms is fun because it is more challenging, making it more difficult to target them and set up a bombing run from a distance. It is also a good opportunity to make use of storm extenders and shared group radar.
Don't ruin this by making it easier to deshield a capship in an ion storm.

Add a variety of storm effects (impairing shields, impairing turbo, impairing radar, etc.) and have storms choose a random assortment of effects when they spawn. Each effect should have some visual component (different particles, glow, etc.) so that you can theoretically identify the effects the storm will have just by looking around within it.
Add shields first, then variety of shields next, then this
To be fair they would also need to inflict these effects on all the ships including yours!
Orly? i though, you know there would be a Trident Type TRS that would just be invincible automagically to anybody that I don't like so that I could fly around and be a hippy carebear socialist and pirate you all with heat seeking tellar ulams and you would have to pay me homage or die horribly.

Dont get yer diaper in such a twist TRS - it doesnt suit you
