The *Other* Tridents
So, when might the Type P and S be dropped into production? No one knows, but I was wondering how they might differ in comparison to the Type M?
e.g. Type P has shields, Type S has more ports, etc.

Type P: Type Probably never happen.
Type S: Type Seriously, did you think we were getting three of these?

Maybe in another couple years.....if we're lucky.
The Type M is not intended to be shieldless or weaponless. It's a BETA feature.
A Type S or P will supposedly have different stats like more turning ratio or less weight etc.. etc..
However, despite the 11 of us who own tridents relentlessly pursuing answers all we know for certain is that shields are extremely technically difficult to implement and therefore it's not at all a priority.

I could give a crap less about shields if I could get a god damn rear-facing turret...
Maybe each one could have a special built-in weapon or ability.

+ a lot

Turrets are the most broken thing in the game, which I guess also makes tridents also the most broken thing in the game by extension. Lol
I disagree, Faction is more broken than turrets... but that also ties into Trident/cappies/turrets.
That was actually what I was getting at
Each hive variant component (Master Computer, Sensor package thus far, but should also include reactors, engines, maneuvering thrusters, turrets, and SHIELD GENERATORS) should be it's own add-on class, each with +/- tradeoffs in performance, allowing customizations. Chose a hull type to construct and pimp your ride: Larger ships should require combo's of some components, like a connie could use 2 mixed or matched master computers, a Hac have 3 slots.
if an enemy drops your shield, that component is fried, and they can target your other subsystems, Each needing replacement at base if destroyed...
PS: Who here did NOT get off on customizing what crystals were in your Light Sabers in SW KOTR?

All I cared about was what color they were.
CD's concept is the dream...
As FS2 implemented, destroying each subsystem have conseguences, so kill Comms, Engines and Turrets and you captured that capshp...
Complete those with you can also destroy life support to conquer ship, and must repair it before being able to board it, and we'd have a lot of fun capturing capships... even selling them... ;)
As before, I would prefer S/M to be specializantions between CARGO, Shields, Docking bay slots, armour, engines and weapons loadout...
Specializations of internal space to SSShields, Cargo and Docking slots: [CSSSD] , [CCCCD], [CCDDD]
To go a step beyond, capships could add (expensive and slow) customization of components:
-Armour - defense Vs weight/maneuvrability
-Reactor - Power offer Vs weight/maneuvrability
-Engines - Acceleration Vs Max Speed Vs Power usage
-Internal space - Storage Vs Small ships docking slots
