Get rid of the nearly useless forum search feature
... and use this instead: http://www.google.com/cse/

A google search can't search by thread title or author. It also can't search forums with restricted access, like the PCC. Also, google searches don't seem to be comprehensive, as every once and a while threads I'm looking for don't seem to be in google's records at all.
I'd rather see the current forum search improved to do the things listed above, making it actually useful. Even if it weren't implemented any time soon, just someday...

*insert scathing sarcastic commentary here*
The Search "Feature"....
Useful, no? Fifty results, with repeats for a very specific search (thread title and OP's name), and absolutely none of were what I searched.
Google....
Same search phrase, except I added "Vendetta" at the end... just to be safe. Top two hits... this is just embarrassing!

What is it with Itan and removing features?
Get a new forum package period.

The forum is new. But the search feature never changed.
+1 OP.

The forum's search feature would be more useful if you wanted to, say, find all of the posts by a specific user, or limit it to specific forums, but it doesn't do any of that. More often then not I find myself using Google to do it with things like
site:vendetta-online.com weeee
It's fast and gives more relevant results.
Good example pics there Ryan.

I agree with meridian.
Despite all evidence to the contrary...
You agree with... "A google search can't search by thread title or author."
Despite the fact that it clearly can, that's fascinating. Maybe you ought to stick to the PCC and your own unique brand of jack booted keeping the forums clear of oh so naughty words.

It has more to do with the number of phone calls I got this past year at my place of business asking if I want to "improve my Google ranking", or the fact that Google charges extra for their search feature not to come with AdSense or branding. Aside from Google, the Vendetta Search function is probably one of the only Search functions I actually use on the web.
The author of the thread you use as an example didn't actually write the thread title as a phrase anywhere in the message body, which makes finding it more difficult. Interestingly enough, try searching for "replacement Valk" using VO's search function (include the quotes). I find if you can remember an exact phrase you used in the message you are searching for, it makes it a lot easier.
I'm not saying the Search function couldn't be better, but it's probably not a huge priority right now, and there is the advantage of not having it tied to Google or any outside brand.

Buy me this, and I'll rewrite the forum search functionality for them.

Ok, so it can limit to specific forums by adding the url to the site: tag
but I can't say "Find me every post by Incarnate" like you can with some forums integrated searches.

Just give everybody read-only access to the database. Problem solved.
Rin, that would create a lot of problems as it would open up a whole lot of data they probably don't want people seeing....such as lists of characters on accounts, personal details, etc.
Granted, they could limit the read account to specific tables, but to create the views necessary to keep people out of places they shouldn't be....they'd be expending as much work as actually rewriting the search functionality. Not to mention, it would be less useful to non-technical users than a more comprehensive search.

Sorry, I was being jocular.
lol...sorry, my brain was turned off and incapable of detecting sarcasm.
