Make turrets purchase-able ships!
Due to widespread support of my previous turret post, I thought I'd make another suggestion.
Make the turrets purchasable and pilot-able!
Max speed would be whatever it is when they emerge from the conq stations (i.e. very very slow). Also should have much less armor (say 30k), and should be available in the gauss cannon version only.
Would be quite fun.

switching between operations of turrets could work, but there would need to be some rules about the limitations of the role. Can the turrets leave the sector? how far our can they go etc.. etc..
No jump drives of course. They're super slow already.
Maybe make them so they can only turbo and turn with no strafe?

Yeah, why not, like stated, conq stations only. Might be fun, might also be useful to defending.
They would have to be something you would manufacture. Not just purchase. Enough trouble that everyone wouldn't be flying them around and taking them to NW.
I like the idea... I like playing with turrrets, as BT will say...
Two alternative approaches:
1. As OP, you man a self-propelled turret, launch from station. No turbo nor jump.
2. Turrets Control Deck: Accessible only in Conquerable Station, similar to ship's turret PDA tab, one button for each turret. Visuals similar to ship's turrets, maybe simulate the "remote" aspect with some visual glitches, and a big flashing "Turret N".

I like the turret control deck idea, but it sorta makes a dockable turret idea redundant. Or maybe that's ok?
dreaming far... when you first conquer a station, only option 1, manning a single turret, is available, but you can build (manufacture) a Defense Computer, what gives you option 2, Turrets Control Deck...
if we have to choose only one implementation, I prefer .2., while .1. is also interesting... maybe depending on user's licenses and if he is guest/owner... Even offer a simplified (boring) mission to man a turret for a price, like 1000c/hour... and big rewards for kills
