Ship classes
Was just mining, hauling, making... dying.. and realized that this is almost like being the one little 'unit' in a strategy game like "homeworld". You have 'resource gathering' (mining) transporting (behemoths), attack ships (everything else) and frigates (trident?) then larger carriers and mother ships...
Got me wondering if down the road it would be practical to have different class/scale of ships (that are useable)
To see what I'm talking about, go to:
http://shipyards.relicnews.com/hw2/index_hiigaran.html on on the menu on the right, under
"Homeworld 2" you can click on the different 'races' Hiigaran; Vaygr & Progenitors , when you do a menu appears under them with links to all the different types of ships.
It just seems the VO ships are rather small... considering a while RACE took to the stars you'd think there would be some large craft (holiday vessels, etc).
My questions to the devs: Is this possible; is it in the 'plans'; and what could the 'community' do to help it along.

They did recently hire a new artist, so we may be seeing some new ship models down the road. Though I imagine that would likely happen after a UI overhaul.
I might remind people that artist and modeler are 2 different jobs. An artist I'd expect would be providing more textures for consumption in game, but that doesn't mean we'll have new ship models too.
That being said, I'd really love new ship models.

we need more variety of ships if you want to haul you use a moth if you want to mine you use a moth
A mining ship should look completely different to a hauling ship and have completely different stats
and yes I am a miner so I'm biased

"if you want to mine you use a moth"
Speak for yourself newb. On the rare occasions when I mine actual astroids, I use a ragnarock.

Actually, that's only true at really huge AAA studios, like Electronic Arts. No indie shop can afford dedicated "modeler" vs "texture artist" people, and I would say that most industry artists have done both at some point, even when they work at big studios. In probably half the game industry, "artist" covers a wide variety of areas.
In other news: yes, we need more ships. You will be seeing more ships, but a number of other things will probably be touched first.

Ya know Inc... there are about a million ships designed by players who were and are perfectly willing to sign away all rights to them.
