Alternative Methods for Raising Standings

Currently the only way to raise standings with minor factions from hate to dislike in order to dock is to send escorts to that faction for a tiny increase each mission. There needs to be some other way to get those standings back from hate that doesn't involve drudgery unlike anything else in VO, at least for the first time around.

A couple ideas:

For new players: Combat 5 and under, one-time mission, taken at a UIT capitol. Name it Second Chance, and when taken, raise the new player's standings to a minimum of dislike for minor factions. Be sure to include that it's a one-time thing. I hate to see people tank a newb's standings by exploiting the faction system, especially since there's no way for them to get it back. (you know who you are >.>)

For others: A mission taken at a UIT capitol, one time. 20,000,000 credits to boost back to dislike, similar to the Corvus mission, but for minor factions.

I agree with the premise for your suggestion. I'm not sure what limitations there are, but both of your solutions look like they could be provided through PCC missions. I'd rather see development time spent on the faction redux and other languishing game elements.

Yeah it's a 5 minute PCC mission, but unless phaserlight or crazyspence do their magical thing it wont get added.

EDIT: Omg.. are you Neon Black?

No, but he's one of the reasons I posted this.

Incarnate: This is a long standing annoyance to many of us, will you deploy the missions to the game server if we create them in the PCC mission editor? If so I'll hop right on it. Tarenty if you want to cooperate on this to get some creative ones I'm down for that too.

You've got the cart before the horse.

Ive seen heaps of PCC missions on the editor that haven't been implemented, this is as simple as it gets.

From what I've seen, the approval process and getting the devs to pay attention to your mission is harder than actually creating it, which is saying something considering how broken all the tools are.

There's no big design job here, it's a straight mission to pay money for standing. If it's going to get implemented it takes 5 minutes to actually write the mission. The real question is: why wasn't this done long ago, and the answer cannot possibly be "because nobody in the PCC made a mission for it".

You are suggesting the devs make a special dispensation for your mission, bypassing the entire process of peer review which is well documented, and well tested. It takes a grain of patience to wait for feedback on one's misson(s), and a measure of trust to set out on a project without knowing whether or not it will ever see production. Not one of my mission trees has ever received the special favor of guarantee. Taking shortcuts is rarely the best way to produce quality content.

It's no secret how to get a mission tree into production. Your post is choosing to disregard this process and turning to popular appeal instead.

It's no secret how to get a whole big mission tree into production, but how do you get one or two small, easy to test ones in?

-1 to quick fixes, +1 to alternatives to escorts

If you become hated by a faction, you must have done something really bad. So if you ask me, repairing that should require doing that faction's dirty work. Since you are hated by them, which is public knowledge, your participation in e.g. assassinations on their behalf won't be linked back to them, giving them plausible deniability.

Since you can't dock with them, and these are shady dealings, the missions would show up at Corvus stations. They also might be unclear as to which faction is sponsoring the mission, which means if you have multiple hated factions and only want to fix a specific one, things become more difficult.

+100000 to Diplomatic TRIPS: http://www.vendetta-online.com/x/msgboard/21/26447

oh, I know not everyone is in PCC, so if you aren't here's a mission editor extract so you get the idea:

The Union of Independent Territories Senate grants diplomatic immunity to traders that are willing to invest a significant amount of credits in one of the constituent corporations of the Union.

Commonly referred to as Trade Reparation Investment Packages ('TRIPS'), the payment will allow you to dock with the corporation in question for trade purposes.

WARNING: Diplomatic TRIPS are recommended for those without station access only. If you have good standing with a corporation then a diplomatic TRIP will reduce that standing back to 'dislike'.

More options is good. I like both the TRIPS idea and Rin's idea, personally.

Is this mission supposed to work yet? I had it appear on my list in Dau Senate station - 3 times - but when i "accept" the mission ends with a status of 'Completed' and no payment or restoration has been made.
Jan 21, 2013 TheRedSpy link
Really? They worked fine last time I tried them out did you check what happened on your mission log? It gives you a prompt yes/no question whether you want to pay the 20mil for the faction restoration and if you accept it decucts and restores before ending on a timer.

Are you positive you meet the requirements for the mission and it's not just a cached version that you're not meant to see?

But short answer yes they are in game and they are working, i've taken them a number of times myself for various reasons and I know of others who have. They have a limit of once per week per faction though so you need to be sure you want to go through with it.

Oh holy crap yes. Please make it so there's something other than bulk procurements that produce a measurable increase in standing...
