Where is the wiki?

http://vo-wiki.com

---

Why can't I accept this mission?
Why does the mission show "Route" instead of "Accept"?

Missions can only be accepted from inside a station. Some missions are only offered from specific stations or types of stations. The "Route" button plots a course to the nearest station offering the mission. Go there and dock, and you should be able to accept.

---

How do you dock?

Find the green S on the radar. That is a docking bay. Turn to face it. You should see the docking bay, with the entrance demarked by flashing blue arrows pointing inward. Fly inside, and you will dock automatically (unless you disabled auto-docking, in which case you must press "Accept", which is normally the Enter/Return key).

---

How do you level up?

You level up licenses by doing the things the licenses are about. For the Combat License, do combat missions like "Advanced Combat Training", "Rogue Hive Queen", and the various skirmishes. Defeating higher leveled players in PVP also awards combat XP. Light and Heavy Weapon licenses are gained by killing enemies with that type of weapon. Some combat missions (e.g. "Advanced Combat Training") also award Light and Heavy Weapon XP. For the Trade License, do trading missions or trade at a profit. For the Mining License, you get XP for every ore you mine. The rarer the ore, the more XP per unit. Mining missions award additional XP.

---

Why can't I buy this ship or weapon even though I have the money?

Most ships and weapons have license requirements that you must meet. They can also have differing faction requirements - if a faction does not like you, they may not be inclined to sell you high-end gear. There are also some items that are only sold to people who meet other requirements, often the possession of a particular badge. Ask around or check the wiki for details.

---

How do I increase my faction standing?

Do missions for the faction in question, or kill bots within their monitored space. The "Trade Guild" missions in particular tend to be good ways to build standing. Note that escort missions provide an increase to the destination faction, not the originating faction. If you are hated or worse with a nation, it is rumored that Corvus might be able to help regain minimal standings, for a price.

---

How do I jump to another sector?

To jump, you must have a course plotted. If you don't have one, open the Navigation Map (the "n" key by default) and choose a destination. Then procede to fly 3000 meters away from any large objects (the meter in the center of the screen helps track this). When you are clear, make sure you have at least 25% energy, and then press "Activate" to jump. "Activate" is the Enter/Return key by default. Note that once you plot a course, a jump point will appear as an icon on the HUD, with the distance below it, and as a green "+" in the radar. Unless you are in an ion storm, you don't have to actually jump from that specific point - anywhere that is 3000 meters away from other objects will suffice.

---

How do I warp to another system?

Warping is similar to jumping, but it requires 100% energy, and instead of flying 3000 meters away from all objects, you have to fly into a wormhole. First, enter the appropriate wormhole sector, if you haven't already. They are designated on the map by a blue swirl icon, and when hovered over, they say the name of the system the connect to. Once in the wormhole sector, you will see the blue swirl icon in the radar, and a HUD icon as well, similar to a jump point. The text below the HUD icon tells you how far away it is. Fly toward it. When you are close enough, the text will change to tell you that you may now jump. Let your energy recharge, if needed, and press "Activate".

If need to see an overview of the universe, you can press the "Zoom" button in the Navigation Window to zoom out. If you click on another system and press the button again to zoom in, you can click on sectors within to plot a multi-system course.

---

How do I get out of an ion storm?

You can only leave an ion storm from a specific point. A jump point icon appears there, showing the distance below it. It also appears on the radar, as a green "+". Fly up to the jump point, then let your energy refill to at least 25% and jump as usual by pressing "Activate". If it does not jump, but instead says, "You are already at your destination", that means exactly what it says - you are already in the sector you had plotted a course to, and it is having a storm. If you want to leave, you will have to plot a course to another sector.

---

How do I avoid ion storms?

Ion storms form in sectors that have asteroids. If you plot your course to go around any asteroid fields, you will avoid any ion storms. Note that you can hold down the "Shift" key while plotting a course, to create a route with multiple waypoints through the system.

---

How do I PVP?

Just point and shoot. Dodging is a good idea as well. Other than one special case (see the entry for "Friendly Fire"), there are no hoops to jump through, unless you want a ranked duel (see the entry for "Dueling"). Do be aware that non-duel fights in monitored space can have consequences to your faction standings.

---

What is a duel?

You can use the /duel command to challenge other players to an official duel, which they may either accept or decline. A duel is a 1v1 ranked match. Duelists show up cyan on the radar, and if a duelist is damaged by another player, the duel is aborted. During a duel, the opponents will not be subject to faction penalties for killing eachother, and the limited friendly fire protection within capitals is disabled.

---

Is there Friendly Fire Protection?

In general, there is no friendly fire protection. If you land a hit on a ship, it will hurt that ship, even if it is your ally. The only exception is within the capital systems of nation space, where native ships in good standing cannot hurt eachother. For example, in Dau (the UIT capital), two UIT ships would not be able to hurt eachother unless one of them had a standing of "Hated" or "Kill on Sight" with the UIT. This does not apply to foreign ships, no matter how high their standing.

---

What is the difference between Flight Assist and Physics mode?

In Physics mode, when you use your forward/backward controls, you accelerate or decelerate. If you aren't accelerating in some direction, your ship will continue moving in whatever direction it's already going, no matter how you might rotate. This is called inertia.

In Flight Assist mode, your ship behaves more like an airplane. Using your forward/backward controls adjusts a throttle, defining some forward speed that your ship will try to maintain. It will automatically accelerate or decelerate until it reaches that speed, and then holds it. If you rotate, your ship will automatically attempt to neutralize any lateral motion you initially have due to inertia, and will being accelerating in the new direction.

Some people find Flight Assist mode to be more intuitive, while others prefer the flexibility that Physics mode offers. Some even alternate between both, depending on the circumstances. Try them out and see what you prefer.

---

What does Auto Aim do?

With Auto Aim turned off, your guns will shoot wherever you point them. With Auto Aim turned on, however, they will automatically adjust their aim if you aim your ship near the targeting reticule, effectively snapping them to the reticule and reducing your need to aim perfectly. The color of the reticule changes when this happens. Different weapons have diffent angular distances at which Auto Aim kicks in.

Note that it is not always desirable to use Auto Aim. The reticule does not always show the ideal location to fire at to hit a moving target, particularly if the target is a skilled human pilot.

---

How do you pick up items?

The items will show up on the radar as purple dots. On the screen, they will be various colored containers. To pick them up, simply fly into them. You must have suffient space in your cargo hold for the item.

---

What do item colors mean?

Brown is for scrap. Green is for ore. Purple is for gear. Cyan is for commodities. Yellow is for special goods like processor cores or event items. White is for Purified Xithricite (see "Capture the Cargo").

---

How do you use a scanner?

Target the object to be scanned, and get within the scanner's range. The object will be scanned automatically. Firing the scanner is not necessary; it will display a visual effect, but will not actually do anything productive.

---

How do you target asteroids?

Aim at the asteroid, then press the "target in front" key. On the PC version, that is the "b" key by default. On the Android version, press and hold the target button, then select "Target in front" from the menu that appears

---

How do you mine?

Equip a mining beam. Fly to within range of the asteroid you want to mine (typically, 100 meters or closer). Target the asteroid. Activate the mining beam by firing the appropriate trigger. The ore will appear in your cargo hold when the timer has finished, if there is space. Mining heats the asteroid, which significantly increases the time it takes to mine another unit. Asteroids have different heating and cooling rates, usually inversely proportional to size. Ice is generally faster to heat and cool than rock.

Note that you do not need to have a scanner equipped to mine, though they make identifying suitable asteroids simpler.

---

Do asteroids explode, or otherwise go away?

No. They just get hot when mined and cool down when not mined.

---

Can you land on planets?

No.

---

Can you walk around inside stations?

No.

---

How do you trade?

Buy items from one location and find someplace to sell them for a higher price. Note that the cargo tab shows the best sell price in the system for each good in your hold.

---

How do you buy and sell from other players?

You can transfer money by using the /givemoney command. You have to be in the same sector as the other player. Goods can be transferred by jettisoning them via the cargo tab, and then allowing the other person to scoop them up. Be careful trading with people you don't know.

---

Are there bounties?

Nations automatically place bounties on people who kill ships within monitored space. You can become a bounty hunter by PMing the word "Bounty" to the marshall in one of the capital stations, and following his directions. From then on you will automatically be rewarded with credits any time you kill somebody who has a bounty on his or her head.

You cannot place these bounties yourself, but you can manually offer and reward bounties through chat and the /givemoney command.

---

How do you send a Private Message?

Use the /msg command, and remember to put quotation marks around people's names if they have spaces. Here is an example:

/msg "Ekona Boshella" Are you interested in a job?

---

How do you make groups or parties?

Use the /group command.

---

Are there guilds or clans?

Yes, there are guilds. Use the /guild command. Guild membership is not necessary to have a fun time. You should probably play the game for a while before trying to join one, so that you have a better idea about what you want to do, and about which guild would be a good fit for you.

---

Can players own stations?

Yes, there are a few stations in greyspace which can be conquered and owned by players.

---

Can stations be destroyed?

No, but some can be captured.

---

Is there crafting?
How do I build things?

"Manufacturing" (our version of "crafting") is done by taking a mission. The mission will ask for various parts, which you must collect and bring back to the station. The mission takes the items and returns an object. You may need to finish prerequisite missions before a given manufacturing mission appears.

---

Can I get one of those big capital ships?

Yes. Currently, capital ships may be built, but not bought. At the moment only one model is avalable, the Trident Type M, but more will show up eventually. Be aware that building a Trident is a VERY involved process, that could take months of work.

---

Somebody is being annoying in chat. What can I do?

If you just don't want to see their messages, you can ignore them with the /ignore command:

/ignore "Mr. Noisy Troll"

You can also ignore people from the "Comm" tab in the PDA, which lets you specify a duration for the ignore to last.

If the person is being really offensive or especially annoying, you can vote to have him muted for a day or so, with the /vote mute command:

/vote mute "Mr. Racist Troll"

Each account can only cast one vote, and it takes at least twenty votes to apply a mute.

If somebody gets excessively out of line, you could also report him by making a support ticket through the website. Only do this for actual legitimate breaches of the EULA and ROC.

---

What goes in a turret port?

Turret weapons go in the turret port. They can be found in the "Other" tab along with powercells, though not all stations sell them. Note that turret ports have a built-in neutron turret when you don't equip anything to them.

---

How do I use my turrets?

You can't. You have to get another human player to operate them for you. Once you find somebody who agrees, you need to both dock with the same station. Then you invite him to man the turrets with the /gunner command:

/gunner invite "Space McGunner"

---

What happens when you die?

You have to buy and equip a new ship. If you had any cargo with you, it got dropped where you died. Whatever equipment your ship had attached also has a random chance of dropping. If you return to the scene, you may be able to retrieve some of it. But remember that whatever killed you in the first place might still be there waiting for your return!

You don't lose any XP or money when you die, but some missions will be failed if you die while they are active.

If you died due to a player killing you, and it happened in monitored space, and you are at "Admired" or better with the local faction, you will see a screen pop up asking if you want him to suffer a faction penalty. Your home nation might also put a bounty on him, even if you don't have "Admored" standing.

---

I really really hate dying and just want to play a game where I'm safe all the time!

Well, this game is named "Vendetta" for a reason, and the mindset here is "Don't get mad; get even." If you really find the possibility of death to be unacceptible, perhaps you should consider another game, of the sort that does not allow non-consensual PVP. We'll be sorry to see you go, but wish you luck with finding the right game.

How do I take a mission from inside a station?

Click on the 'Your PDA' tab. Click the 'Missions' button. Click the 'Mission Board' tab. You can now either highlight the mission you want and then click the 'Info' button (bottom left) or just double click the mission in question.
--------------------------------------

I accepted and left the station on an intro mining mission but nothings happening now that I've mined the ore and I'm back at the station, it won't let me complete the mission.

Before you start the intro mining mission remove any mining beams you might have bought and fitted to your ship yourself. Now start the mission and use any free mining beams they might give you.
--------------------------------------

I'm on a mission but I don't know what to do next.

Press 'm' and read the 'Mission Logs', carefully.
--------------------------------------

I'm doing 'The Gauntlet' mission and I've completed the first wave of bots but now nothings happening.

First thing to do is check the mission logs and if everything seems OK there then try flying back to where you started killing bots - locate and follow the trail of purple radar dots (cargo from your bot kills). If this doesn't spawn the next wave of bots in the next ten minutes you may have to start the mission again. You could also try flying towards the worm hole where you entered the sector.

---

Is there a 3rd person view?

Yes. You can change to a 3rd person view with the F9 key or with the command /veiwtoggle.

You can also set the camera mode under Options > Game > Flight Camera Mode, which includes an alternate 3rd person view with a more stable camera.

---

How do I turn the chat filter off?

You can disable the chat filter in the options under Options > Game > Chat Filter

---

What do the different chat colors mean?

Blue - Chat channels (1 to 2^32) which can be viewed by anyone from anywhere in the universe (with the exception of channel 11, which is only visible to others from your own nation). Light blue is the active channel and other channels you have joined will be dark blue (up to 32 channels can be joined at one time).

Green - Sector chat viewable by others located in the same sector as you

Pink - Sector chat viewable by others located in the same system as you

Yellow - Group chat with other people in your group (if you have one)

Orange - Guild chat with other members of your guild (if you have one)

Red - Incoming private messages viewable only by you and the sender. Private messages you send will be light green.

White (with asterisks) - Global messages from guides or developers, usually announcing upcoming server restarts or special events

---

How can I take notes for later reference?

On the missions tab under Mission Notes you can type notes for whatever you want (up to 10 pages).

You can also save notes for a specific sector from the Navigation tab. Hover the cursor over the sector you want to write the note for and press the 'a' key. The method is the same for saving notes for a given system, so long as you click the "zoom to system" button first. You can review saved notes by clicking the "list notes" button, which includes a search feature.

---

Is there voice chat support?

Yes. You can use voice chat to talk with others from your guild or current group (but not both at the same time).

You can set it up by going to Options > Voice Chat

--

How can I load a newly installed plugin without exiting the client?

Type "/lua ReloadInterface()" in the console (won't work from the chat box). To open the console press the ` key or use the command /consoletoggle.

---

What is a friend key?

You can send a friend key to your friends via their email address, inviting them to create a VO trial account or extend an existing trial account by 14 days (real time). Friend keys cannot be applied to an account that has had a paid subscription in the past.

You earn a friend key to give out for every month you subscribe (up to 5 at any given time).

---

What is a cargo spoofer?

If you have a cargo scanner equipped, other people with a cargo scanner will see false data for the cargo you carry. There are several different cargo spoofers available, and each uses a fixed list of items that is seen by cargo scanners. The list of items is not editable and is broadcast even if you have no cargo.

There is also a cargo blocker, which while you have equipped, anyone with a cargo scanner will see "scan blocked" instead of your cargo.

---

Can I get repairs outside of a station?

Other ways to repair outside of a station are: docking with capital ships, by another player equipped with a repair module, and after finishing a race at the race tracks.

You cannot use a repair module to repair yourself.

---

Why did a ship disappear from my radar?

Asteroids and other large objects will occlude other players from your radar if that object blocks your line of sight to that player. You will also lose your lock on a player if you have them targeted when they are occluded from radar. Occluded players will still appear on the sensor log.

A player may also disappear from radar if they are outside of your radar range (5km typically). Radar range inside a storm is 500m (which can be extended with storm radar extenders), and the range varies inside fog.

Players beyond 15km will not appear on the sensor log.

---

What is CtC and how do I participate?

CtC stands for capture the cargo and is a weekly competition between Itani and Serco to secure the most shipments of Purified Xithricite Ore. Convoys will depart from grey space with the cargo (Itani Bractus C-5 to Divinia M-14, Serco Sedina L-2 to Pyronis L-6) and follow a route back to their home nation. It begins each Sunday and ends Saturday.

You can participate by defending the convoys of your favored nation, or by stealing the cargo from the enemy convoy and delivering it to the opposing nation. UIT players may also participate, assisting the nation of their choice. To receive updates on the event (when the convoys depart, are attacked or are destroyed), join channel 201 for the Itani convoy and channel 202 for the Serco convoy.

You will lose standing with a nation when you destroy one of their convoy ships, even in unmonitored space. While you are carrying Purified Xithricite Ore you will only be able to dock at the destination stations (Divinia M-14 or Pyronis L-6). Statistics from the competition can be found online, and the nation that wins will be able to purchase the Neutron Blaster MkIII the following week.

---

Where can I find race tracks?

The race tracks can be found along the 5th row of the Sedina system. Try to get the fastest time at a given track for the current month.

[EDIT] Fixed length of friend key trial (must have been thinking of the mmorpg promo keys)

Why does Vendetta sucks so incredibly hard?

Because all of the developers live in a world where breathing requires additional effort and creativity, ability, and knowledge do not exist.

Why does it take so long for new features to be added to the game?

Because the developers are really great at long form explanations of why new new features aren't added to the game, but terrible at adding new features to the game.

The devs said <X> would happen in <unit of time> but it didn't. What gives?

An absurd misconception that mobile gaming would be important to a twitch based MMO combined with a lack of vision and complete incompetence.

The update says <whatever feature> is now implemented, why doesn't it work?!

See above.

Lol, well considering there is a point in every new VO players career where they start asking these questions, in a roundabout way they should be answered.

I could sure use some answers - so far the one I've come up with is they make more money from doing proof of concept engine work for other companies than they do from subscriptions.
