New Faction

May 30, 2012 opposite link
Pretty sure this was talked about before, but maybe they should add a new faction. This serco, itani, and UIT thing is getting old. Maybe, Akanese?

No. It would severely hamper multiplayer guilds and stuff.

+1 as allways.

We need an opposing force to UIT. And a place that pirates, bucanneers, privateers, pushers, contrabandists and generic outlaws can call home.

Already proposes to create a 4th faction, new and indenpendent, sort of "unaligned" or simply "Rat Nation"
Also we can make one existing faction as playable. Corvus seems the logical choice.

This would fix the most of IFF issues we have now, and avoid that feeling "how can someone on my team (nation) shoot me, call themselves pirates, and my nation does nothing?"

Another alternative: HIVE faction. For me, as 5th faction, maybe even free2play.

+1 to an 'unaligned' or 'exiled'. Not sure of the overall gameplay repurcussions though.

3 faction PvP is much better for balance reasons. The idea is that there's a check on one side becoming too powerful. Either that or make it 5 factions.

Creating a hive faction would open up unaliagned....

Ghost, elaborate why 5 is better than 2... I fail to see why.

PaK, that would be an amazing 5th faction, a droid's lifestyle...

An odd number of factions allows for what is basically player made balance. Thats why 3 or 5 is better than 2. If one faction becomes too powerful, other factions can unite to take them down. With only 2 factions, one can become dominant pretty easily as if they start owning the other faction, there's nothing else to keep them in check. I suppose 4 could work as well, but that has the potential to devolve through alliances into what are really 2 factions.

I think it was DAoC (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that was the first to show how much better 3 faction PvP is than 2. Since then, a number of other games have moved to that formula including Rift and Guild Wars 2. It just makes for more competitive gameplay.
