Make nation space "feel" smaller, maybe?
I have been reading a great deal about how there seems to be almost no nationalist tendencies anymore, and about how people would welcome more grey space. I think I have an idea based on another game.
So here is the gist of it. Nation sectors don't stay "monitored" by themselves. Here is a basic breakdown:
Each system has a sector that contains a "sub space communications system". This device allows all the sectors in a system to share information, in other words, hated players in that system, etc.
These communications systems are however inherently flawed. They need to be programmed to use a certain frequency, and this frequency is changed every 2 hours. The frequency can however not be remotely changed, and must be programmed by flying close to the "sub space communications system" with a "tuning beacon" equipped.
Each nation has it's own "tuning beacon" device that tunes the system to it's own frequency.
What this allows for, and used to be great fun, is "painting" the map to your nation color. It also makes for great hunting of the player turning my Itani sectors RED.
If the beacon is not tuned to any frequency, all the sectors in that system become unmonitored grey space, except for the station sectors obviously. If the communications devices are tuned to a certain nations frequency, they are monitored by that nation for the next 2 hours.
This could even be expanded to providing control of the turrets, so if the sector contains turrets, they are controlled by whatever nation controls that systems communications device. Making the whole universe much more dynamic, and giving good reasons for nationalists to actually exist.

what
lol
Basically, every two hours or day or whenever, a system would turn grey. Players would need to fly to each sector to "paint" the sector in the nation's color, which would cause that nation to monitor the sector. Once painted they'd be stuck until the next time the sector resets. You could optionally paint it a different nation's color instead, and have them monitor it.
Interesting idea, but no.

Think a per sector basis would be too much, but per system is doable, and fun... Care to elaborate on the no Pizzasgood?
My concern is there's no way to paint a system grey. It assumes grey is just the unset default, to be changed later.
The simplified version of this suggestion is essentially to make nation space conquerable. It's a fascinating concept. Consider a completely dynamic vendetta where players can choose to fight for any faction, and are constantly fighting and retaking systems for their nation. It would be like a global deneb.
It's an interesting idea, but I think it deviates too far from the direction the devs want to take the game in.
Truly intriguing idea.. but I don't see it happening in vendetta.

It isn't often I agree with TRS but that's the best idea ever.
On the crappy note based on the general laziness of the rest of the verse I would expect to see see all nation space become Itani which is probably why it won't happen
